Small Board, Small Niggles

The Holeyboard M3 Amptop pedal board is my 1st foray into getting my pedal act (I have a more colorful vocabulary but toning it down for the masses) together. With my setup, I was able to mount 3, standard size pedals and two micro pedals. The M3 works relatively well for a bare-bones, take it anywhere rig. UPSIDE: The form factor is nice and compact. The materials are quality and the color selection is appealing. The small footprint makes for easy handling and is the single best aspect of this board. DOWNSIDE: In setup, I ran into a fundamental flaw regarding power adaptors: standard, 90-degree power cable heads do not fit through the board holes. This holds true of both the Walrus Audio and Strymon power supplies. In function, I bumped into second, fundamental flaw: a power supply mounted under-board will not allow the board to sit flush atop an amp. Reason being, the amp handle gets in the way. As a result, adding a power supply will relegate this board to the floor. Not a huge deal, but the name is a potential misnomer. OVERALL: I am glad to have the M3 Amptop board. For me, it has provided a nice gateway into pedal organization and collects the basic pedals I want in an organized and compact format. ~m

great review... I was looking at one of these to sit atop an amplifier because all my pedals are MIDI and I control preset changes via a MIDI board, but it kidna defeats the point of the thing if I can't just set it on the amp.... its just the handle that gets in the way of the power supply? what type of amp is giving you grief? like, a vox handle or tweed era handle is really tall but post-tweed fender and marshall handles sit a lot more flush (though the marshalls are pretty wide).

Thank Jim!, I'm running with a Blues Cube which has a pronounced handle akin to the Vox. If we opted to run pedals on batteries, it would be just fine, but with an under-mounted power supply the space that could accommodate a handle is gone and we are SOL ~m

I was thinking more about this niggle. My use of the Aetos is overkill given that I'm running 2 OD's on my board. As such, my clean power is a lost cause and daisy chaining could work. Also, the T-Rex Fuel Tank as a much smaller form factor so that may make the difference thus providing the clearance you need. ~m
