Description

The Epiphone El Capitan is a tribute to timeless design and exceptional craftsmanship, offering bassists a blend of vintage allure and modern versatility. This acoustic-electric bass guitar draws inspiration from the legendary SJ-200, celebrated for its rich history and association with iconic artists. Its Sitka spruce top paired with layered mahogany back and sides delivers a naturally warm and resonant sound, perfect for both unplugged sessions and amplified performances.

The El Capitan's Fishman electronics ensure that the bass's organic tones translate beautifully when plugged in, courtesy of the Sonitone under-saddle pickup and Sonicore preamp. This setup provides nuanced control with volume and tone adjustments discreetly tucked under the soundhole. The 30.5-inch scale length and Indian laurel fingerboard make it a comfortable instrument for a wide range of players, while the Medium "C" neck profile enhances playability.

Aesthetically, the El Capitan stands out with its pearloid crown inlays, figured maple binding, and a distinctive moustache bridge, marrying visual elegance with acoustic excellence. Whether you're performing on stage, recording in the studio, or simply enjoying the rich tones at home, the Epiphone El Capitan is a bass that promises to elevate your musical journey.

Greg Lake playing an Epiphone El Captain Acoustic Electric 4 string bass.

This came from his MySpace page that he apparently no longer uses.

These acoustic basses are sought after for their quality, tone, and playability at an accessible price. This happens to be the earlier model before the cutaway body configured was phased in. Beautiful maple top, back and sides along with a carefully set maple neck. The tone woods are nicely selected with bright, clear grain and remarkable bass response and resonance. Tied together with tasteful binding/inlays. Very comfortable to play with a 34" neck scale and fairly low action for buttery movement and bounce. The electronics sound wonderful with clear, punchy and even projection from the piezo transducer underneath the saddle. Includes a parametric EQ.

Speaking of Lee Sklar, I used to own his Epiphone El Capitan AEB. Traded it at a vintage guitar show about 5 years ago. Ironically, the bass did not make me play like Lee Sklar - much to my disappointment.
