HitFilm Express 15.1 review | TechRadar

techradar.com

HitFilm Express 15.1 offers a compelling array of advanced video editing tools at no cost, making it a standout choice in a crowded market. However, the emotional pressure to "pay what you want" for the download feels manipulative, and users may struggle with high system requirements and a steep learning curve. While it boasts excellent flexibility and numerous online tutorials, the absence of certain features behind a paywall might deter some. Overall, it’s a strong contender for those willing to invest time, but not without its drawbacks.

HitFilm Express 16 review | Tom's Guide

tomsguide.com

HitFilm Express 16 stands out as an impressive free video editing software, boasting a robust feature set that caters to both beginners and experienced users. The program excels with its user-friendly interface, excellent tutorials, and performance across platforms. However, potential users should be aware of its minimum system requirements, the sizable install file, and the slight learning curve that might challenge newcomers. Additionally, it's worth noting the absence of Linux support. Still, for those willing to invest time in learning, HitFilm Express offers powerful tools for a variety of editing projects, solidifying its place as a top contender among free video editors.

Not the worst I've seen, but certainly not the best. Better to just save up for a payware video editor.

I'm a YouTuber who not only does guitar covers or collaborations, but also does tutorial videos and gear guide-related videos. Ever since upgrading my computer, I needed something that could help me process videos quickly in 4K graphics without having to bust the bank. The fact that this software is free to download was the selling point for me...

...that was, until I began running into issues. Effects that I wanted to use were behind paywalls after paywalls, which are not even worth it in the end because of how those effect plugins cause the framerate to drop when you're editing videos. What also pissed me off is the fact that as soon as you start compiling more than 3 video files into one project, the video editor glitches where you can't even automatically shorten or lengthen the duration of the video files - instead, the auto slider speeds up or slows down the overall video. And there's no guides online that show how to solve the issue. Like, WTF?

For someone who's struggling to get by financially, HitFilm Express will do the job, but it's definitely not a long-term sustainable solution for 4K video editing due to the compromises you'll have to deal with. At the very least, it's not the worst - I've definitely dealt with worse video editors such as VSDC video editor or Shotcut, as those video editors are complete shit for high-resolution video editing.

But, HitFilm Express is definitely not worth your time if you have a computer that can handle 4K videos. By that time, you might as well bust the bank for a payware video editor. Perhaps either a Magix Video Pro X or DaVinci Resolve might work for me, I don't know.
