Critic Reviews

Apple Final Cut Pro (10.6.8) review | Digital Camera World

digitalcameraworld.com

Apple Final Cut Pro X is a powerful upgrade for iMovie users seeking more professional editing tools without a subscription. Its intuitive interface and compatibility with Apple's hardware make it a great choice for Mac users. The software excels in handling ProRes footage and offers robust color grading and motion tracking features. However, it's limited to Mac and lacks some versatility in keying tools compared to Adobe Premiere Pro. Overall, it's an excellent one-time purchase for those in Apple's ecosystem, though Premiere Pro might be preferable for cross-platform users.

A little bit of a learning curve but now it saves me tons of time.

Lets face it, if you use logic the layout of final cut will make way more sense to you from the start. I came from editing video with Sony Products so it was a complete start over for me...and I am glad i did. Syncing video with multiple audio sources is dumb easy and once I gave in to learning the storage methodology as apple would have me do it, it really is seamless with how i shoot.

Great Video Editing

I was wanting a bit more oomph than iMovie could provide, so Final Cut did the trick. Really dig the audio syncing options for multiple video tracks. Price not bad for this much power.

In this 2008 interview with the band, Joe explains the recording process for the EPs "Party Boobytrap" and "Welcome to Tally Hall", which were then combined into the compilation album "Complete Demos".

"I’ve actually mastered Final Cut Pro, which is video editing software. I used it to record all of our demos. It’s supposed to be for video, but I developed an unusual technique by doing high-quality recordings by building a metronome track in an iPod (it’s sort of complicated) and I had been experimenting with that and when it came time to do the Tally Hall recordings I went with that."

It would not have been version X, as it was not available at the time, but some version of Final Cut Pro was used.

FJO: How many different programs are you using to make this all happen simultaneously? I see you have Max/MSP open.

IM: For the music, this is all Max/MSP; the controller is Max/MSP and Jitter. And this is another effect. And I use GRM [plug-ins], and in that way I relate to physical musicians, but otherwise I’m not really physical at all. For the visuals, it’s a whole bunch of things made using FinalCut and then Flash to put together the animation.
