Founded in 2002 by Frederik Slijkerman and Floris Klinkert in Amsterdam, Netherlands, FabFilter develops professional audio plug-ins for mixing, mastering, recording, and sound design. The company launched with FabFilter One, a basic synthesizer, and initially focused on creative tools like synthesizers, filters, and delays before expanding into a comprehensive suite of mixing and mastering plug-ins. Sound on Sound magazine has described FabFilter's plug-ins as "something of an industry standard."

FabFilter's mixing and mastering lineup includes the Pro-Q 4 equalizer, Pro-C 3 compressor, Pro-L 2 limiter, Pro-R 2 reverb, Pro-MB multiband compressor, Pro-DS de-esser, and Pro-G gate/expander. Their creative tools include Saturn 2 (multiband distortion and saturation), Timeless 3 (tape delay), Volcano 3 (filter effect), and Twin 3 (synthesizer). All plug-ins are available in VST, VST3, AU, CLAP, AAX, and AudioSuite formats for macOS and Windows. The Pro-Q equalizer earned an Engineering Emmy Award in 2019 for its Pro-Q 3 iteration.

FabFilter plug-ins are widely used across genres by producers and mix engineers. Featured artists on the company's roster include electronic producer Chris Lake, Dutch production trio Noisia, and Grammy-winning producer and mixer Kevin Killen, among others.
