its a classic

for a long time Iw as a phase 90 dissenter, rocking small stones, a phase 45, a mutron... but I get the phase90 thing. Its dialed in just right to do a certain thing. The limited bandwidth loved distortion in a way a smalls tone doesn't.... great pedal. This is also THE phaser to put on fender Rhodes or Rhodes samples tog et the Fagen sound. Nothing else will do on a rhodes, not even a phase100. Everyone needs one. MXR really used to knock it outta the park in the 70s.

reissue

I do not know where I got my small clone RI. I don't think it sounds particularly good... not like an old one. Much more brittle. Functional chorus though with a different sound then a boss or Ibanez. SOLD

got this in a big gear trade

excellent analog delay... better sounding then AD9.... consumes more power then other boss-sized delays of the era.

fun

thisis like 2 cascaded LPB1s... I got mine with a broken male jack and modded it to be 2 females. I guess I devalued it. Oh well. Totally fun fuzz effect.

a decent OTA phaser

I got this from my friend who in turn got it at a pawn shopa round 99. I bought it from him as a backup for my 70s small stone. It doesn't sound as good but it sounds good enough. I sold the 70s one for a lot of money and kept this. I had modded the 70s one to be true bypass and to not have a volume drop when engaged.... this I didn't mod. Its a little more transparent output-wise. Very good on electric pianos for a pseudo ashes-to-ashes vibe in the more extreme switch position...s crew around with the knob while playing for extra underwater chaos.

huh

I don't know where I got this.... might have been a gift. ITs a mediocre chorus. I think tis analog. It does not soudn as good as other DOD chorus units. The switch stinks. Not recommended.

so bad its good...

I've owned a bunch of these.... I tend to leave them places and never pick them back up. I recently got another one of these with a nice fresh switch just for some nostalgia. I remember back in the 90s preferring the regular, 2 knob fx55 though. This is NOT a DS1, its roe like a boosted up OD250 onc rack. Awful effect. Everyone needs one.

still works!

this flanger still powers up, the switch is working and I assume it still works.... very metallic sounding flanger pedal... I got it for like 10 bucks a bob's rt13 music around the time I got a dod supradistortion. Bought both those DOD pedals because they were cheap and because the other guitarist in my highschool band used thema nd Iw anted to be able to match his tones sometimes. I remember using this a ton for like a year and theng etting a bf2. This guy is different though.

I prefer this to a Distortion+

dual op amp, back to back silicon diodes to ground... classic formula. More output and more of a rusty/raspy, grating metalicness to the clipping versus an MXR which is the same circuit subbing a pair of germanium diodes for earlier clipping, elss output and a skmoother sound.... castly prefer the OD250 for guitar. Synths? the mxr has the edge usually. this epdal is voiced very brightly. It seems like it could take your head off until you get on stage with it. Great for cutting the mix. Pure rockin'

5 star sound, 1 star build!

this chorus is a lush, warm analog chorus. It will overdrive if hit with a hot pickup. I think this is a good thing but like with the BF2 its only cool if its not your only chorus option. Its a neat sound that's hard to achieve with every chorus. This is very much in the CS9/CE2 camp. I appreciate the inclusion of a delay time control on this chorus though. You can get it into light flanging turf. It does a great leslie sound too. I've had this pedal since I was 13 or 14 years old. The switch is pretty much shot but it lasted longer then the TS5s I owned.

blast from the past

my dad gave me this and a soundtank chorus for x-mas when I was like 13... it was very exciting. The switches onthese pedals are terrible and always wear out, however the TS5 SOUDNS very good when you can get it to turn on. I've had 3 of these over the years. I actually preferred the sound to a TS9 for a long time but I used the TS9 more in the end because of its reliability. I would give this 4 stars if the tac switched were more durable. They make 90s DOD pedals look reliable!

I love the rat

this is like the queen bee of buzzy distortion toys... it does a little of everything and it does it well. Sounds great through an AC30 too, which is a tough amp for most dirt boxes. Everyone should own a rat or something absed on the rat. I have this in a box of junk. It went in there when I had a long period where I didn't use many effects in line and now tis been replaced by the TC Nova Drive that ahs a rat in it. But I'll probably never get rid of the proco, I've had it forever. Everyone should buy one.

ughugh ugh

this was the first big muff I ever owned circa '96.... I gutted mine and built another effect into the box. I had the intact and function PCB in the wooden box for a long time and recently I took it out and housed it in a spare box... plugged her in and Is till hate this pedal. This is one of the worst sounding muffs. I've realized I don't actually like big muffs, but even going past that distaste these black Russian muffs sound like ass.

I prefer this to a TS9

I started on tubescreamers eventually favoring the TS9 until someone gave me their SD1. I adh switched fromf ender to amrshall amps back then and the SD1 sounded better into a marshall. It sounds good into a vox. Low on bottom end though. MXR's custom abdass remedies that issue with an extra 100hz control. Mine is old, probably 80s issue? Just found it recently. It appears to power up. I'm stoked. I gave my original TS9 and some TS5s and I think a 10 away to my best buddy, but this I kept. I think it sounds better than a tubescreamer... that extra diode and handful of different cap and resistor values really make a difference to me. People say the enw oens don't sound as good but they're not far off the mark to my ear. I was in a store around DC I sued to frequent and this dude I knew who worked there was A/Bing the current Boss version and an old one they were selling for like 20 times its original retail value. Pretty close. Not the eb all end all or anything, but there's a strange wisdom to this OD. I think the edge uses one of these and a ts9 as his main dirt stomps and that guy can have anything (and does). People shouldn't be cork sniffers, this little guy sounds good and its a steal.

ugh

big muff fans do NOT get excited and start asking me to sell you this.... I've had this forever and its super-broken. If I did fix it, it would not be original. All the transistors are shot. It looks like a previous owner immersed it in a swimming pool. Big muffs are pretty overrated anyway and one sounds much like another. I'll bet some dude got sick of the mid scoop and flushed it down the toilet. I really intended to fix this up back when iw as into muffs but a friend of mine has a very similar ram's ehad that works and I was really underwhelmed by it and I pretty much then switched over to tonebenders and rats then.

sounds great, noisey

I've had an old MXR analog delay for a really long time. I love the big pwoerchord and the cheery green color that's usually associated with OD pedals these days. Ths a ver noisey delay and its very limited. Repeats sound nastya nd fucked up in a great way though. Overall in analog delays, even old ones, there are better units. I believe these are now highly sought after. I'm not sure why though. This delay is very much a special effect, super retro even for an analog delay. Ideal for conjuring up the 80s. It ain't no memory man though. I suspect that like a lot of pedals with AC power cables from way back when the transformer inside that turns wall voltage to DC is badly shielded and positioned and it generates extra noise in the circuit. I've heard of people converting their MXR Distortion IIs over to boss barrel jacks for power and running them at 12 to 18V, I should probably do that with the delay and see if it gets quieter because it definitely sounds different then a carbon copy.

sold to a collector

I don't think mine ever worked, but that's not DOD's fault.

I bought this broken for a few bucks after seeing this band in playing in a basement who had all of these ancient DOD effects with the big switch and appliance-type AC power cable. I thought his flanging sounded great so when I saw this sold as-is at some mom and pop store I bought it. Probably with a pile of other stuff thatw as broken or worthless at the time. I can't remember why I never fixed it. Maybe unavailability of some parts? I'm giving it 3 stars because I have fond memories of this effect even if I haven't heard it in 18 years! I wonder if I can get someone else to buy it broken? nah... think I'll keep it around and fix it eventually. Its just not high on my list of priorities.

oh wow

I didn't know I still had one of these... its a 90s version. It sounds good and has lots of useful features versus like a small clone or CE2 but its therefore harder to dial in because there are lots of bad settings. he stereo is VERY stereo sounding when you make use of it. Great for synthesizers and worth a shot when you're mixing a record and want to add some swirl to your echo sends. Sold, since having the TC reissue analog chorus/flange I never touched this even for true stereo duty. The tone controls for the wet signal are cool, but its inferior to the TC unit in every other way right down to the TC having true stereo input and the ability to change the input gain for synths and mixing...

set phasers to stun

great 70s phasing effect... tone/volume sucker in bypass. Effect has a level drop when put in a true bypass loop, not unlike the 70s small stone I used to own. I love mutron's modulation effects. Prior to this I had a Phasor I and it was also sweet in a different way. I used to have their ultra rare flanger with the wah-type treadle on loan from this junky dude but eventually I had to give it back. Its a bummer. That was a nice flanger. Same problem as the phasor II with the tone sucking and level dropping, but still. Nothing sounds like Mutron gear. I use this when I'm recording more then 80 smallstone or mxr phasers. It sounds better for most things I want to do. There's a biphase setting on all the line6 gear and that gets close if you set it right but the biphase is obviously going to be more extreme at most settings, its a crazy effect. But yeah, for recording I ue this real deal guy for a lot of shiznit. I've had it a long time. Got it around 2001 I think? Right after I got my 70s small stone off my buddy in exchange for my vox wah wah.

found this laying around with some other wah wahs and its a bad mother, shut yo mouth

I'm not sure when I got this. Its the shaft wah, or so I'm told. I think its the classic Zappa wah sound if you're into that. It isn't working right, but when it DOES work it sounds like Isaac Hayes. When you disengage the wah effect its a volum pedal, but its active and with the toe all the way down the thing gives a gentle boost. Old school tone coloration in bypass, but in a good way. Need to fix it. There's something wrong mechanically on top of a dying switch and crackly pot... maybe that's why I put it in a box and forgot about it. Might be too hard/expensive to restore.
