Description

"The ... FX55B [is a] very high-gain preamplifier that [is] overdriven to help produce a distorting of the input signal and help sustain the notes longer. These effects help simulate the characteristic distortion of a guitar amplifier turned up so high that it "clips" the signal, distorting it. [T]he FX55B [has] an extra amount of gain boost in [its] upper range for a greater distortion effect. ... The FX55B's distortion is a symmetrical standard distortion sound with a boost of gain in its upper range."

I wish I knew where my supra from the 90s was, it was horrible in a comical and unique way. I legitimately liked the regular FX55 distortion with 2 knobs and less gain though, like a juiced up OD250. Not sure why I old that, probably the shitty switch....

jimmarchi1

so bad its good...

I've owned a bunch of these.... I tend to leave them places and never pick them back up. I recently got another one of these with a nice fresh switch just for some nostalgia. I remember back in the 90s preferring the regular, 2 knob fx55 though. This is NOT a DS1, its roe like a boosted up OD250 onc rack. Awful effect. Everyone needs one.

Okay distortion pedal

I have this pedal and I use it all the time . On lower distortion it sounds almost like a fuzz but it starts to feedback on high distortion.

This was part of his live pedalboard in 1993 and 1994. It was a replacement for the EHX Big Muff he used in the studio for the extremely distorted parts on songs like My Name is Mud, Nature Boy, and The Pressman. In the DMV music video, his pedalboard can be seen at 1:18, 3:57, and 4:18 for brief moments. Although you're not able to see any brand name, using the details you can see (color, number of knobs, placement of input and output jack), it's most likely an FX55B.

“I’ve still got the standard DOD distortion pedals, Boss pedals, flangers, the distortion box, and the graphic equalizer,” he said. “I collect those like candy boxes. They’re more expensive now – in the old days, I used to get Vox wah-wah pedals for $35. Now they seem to go for as much as $200.”
