bright and crispy

this is an 80s distortion that's bright and nasty.... deifntiely in the OD250 camp. Gets U2's War tones through an ac30

horseshoes and handgrenades

I have the wedge shaped hendrix licensed one of these... another effect someone gave me that I wound up really liking. I don't think tis terribly accurate but it does a lot of stuff that I like and I'm not ing around covering purple haze all day, now am I? the octave is exceptionally staccato and clangy in a way no other octafuzz can replicate.

way more useful then you would think

the older I get the more and more I love this effect I just used it on some arpeggios on a recording the other day... I had the Octavia on and then added ore ring modulation LOL, it was NASTY! But in context it turned out to be rather beautiful. Soloed out the sound was hideous, but the clang was anything but hideous in the song... the freq analyzer is really the premier guitar ring modualtor of its day... the only thing better is the Lovetone one but you can't get those.

moogbadger

I love putting the Moog through it...it's instant Radiophonic Workshop headfuckery. Once again, the smaller XO version doesn't quite have the same level of insanity to it for some reason.

no it doesn't... the big one is better and the old one is best! and yeah, I run synths through it all the time too

when did I buy this? I have NO idea

back up to the back up I guess... haven't sued the black Russian smallstone in a very long time.

who doesn't have one of these in a box somewhere?

if you're recordingwah wah guitar with a maestro boomeriang you will want to record the bass through a bassballs.... one of those quinetessential 70s porno effects.

jimmarchi1

I never get hired to score porno movies so I sold my bassballs...

so funny

I have the old big enclosure. this is the most piecing treble booster you will ever use. I don't care for it much anymore but used to get a real kick out of it. Buy this if you have a dark amp with no tone controls or want to annoy your bandmates. Skip if you're nice to people.

double the pleasure and double the fun.

2 muff fuzzes in one box, toggleable from the traditional cascaded LPB1 into 4 whopping LPB1s cascaded for ultimate filth! This captures some of the tones on Bowie's Aladdin Sane if set right into a big-ass british amplifier. Trashier then the original sand with an actual footswitch! I might trade this in for the Nano version as the enclosure is needlessly big.

moogbadger

It's a great pedal! Yes, it can sound very Mick Ronson, I've had fun playing 'Jean Genie' through it many a time. Try the Nano before you trade it though...they might have 'done' something to it! ha ha....

jimmarchi1
Moderator

it seem unlikely though since its just a bunch of cascaded LPB1s.... I have an old muff fuzz too though, but you can't stomp that. Its an always on fuzz ;-)

what can you say about EHX

the original pulsar dishes up 2 righteous modes of trem.... it gives you a wide range from fender swampiness to supro choppiness. This suffers from the same housing issue as lot of the alrger EHX pedals the thing gauge metal of the box tends to bend under repeated stompings and you slowly wear the switch out. I really don't know why they couldn't have ut this epdal in a smaller enclosure like the small stone. I guess its not that important since I don't use trem much and I tend to gravitate to the cheap little dano fish n chips!

sounds amazing with caveats

I've had this a very long time... it can do a pretty convincing leslie in the right circumstances. Its a little noisey unless you really screw around with the tube in it for the lowest gain option.... the wall wart PSU is chintzy and easy to break on the road. Mine is broken. I'm not sure whats wrong with it but tis ot the tube. It passes signal but the output is crazy low and there's no low end. I don't miss it enough to worry about fixing it. Very cool effect though, just not very road worthy. Mine saw a lot of action on keys, obviously.

fixed... less noisy now

acquired nefariously from a real jerk

I am going to straight up admit I stole this pedal form someone I knw who had ripped off all my AKG mic stands when he changed rehearsal spaces and pretended theyw ere his. He left a small box of stuff so I looted what I thought was fair payment from it including his fulldrive II. Exellent Tubescreamer with lots of extra features. It can do TS9, SD1 and then its own open and flatter sounding verison of the TS9... the boost is also nice. I never use this pedal because of the ridiculous number of TS and SD type pedals I have floating around that will cover these basic sounds... for what these buggers cost I would recommend everyone decide on TS or SD and then get either the Green Rhino MKII or the MXR custom badass OD. But there wasa time when this pedalw as the only thing that really did this flavor of modified tubescreamer and it deserves some credit even though Fuller is a jerk.

its okay

I don't like this as much as the OD250. If I didn't have both of these already I would build one with a switch to go between silicon and germainium diodes... maybe throw in some LEDs and msofets too. This pedal is more distorted then the DOD, but the germanium diodes are really comrepssed right away and the bandwidth is so limited that whe you put it enct to a 250it doesn't have the muscle. it does sound quite good for 80s elads into a marshall... I'm told its great on a TB303 but have enver tried it. I didn't even know I had one of these until recently. I think I may have inadvertetly stolen this from a rehearsal space 10 years ago. It was there and someone thew it in my bag of tricks thinking it was mine and then I never bothered to give it back. Sorry if I have your distortion+ but you shouldn't leave shit laying around in a public space without your name on the baseplate!

when you just need a cheap trem...

this is cheap, it makes a tremelo sound, what more could you ask for? choppy choppy choppy chop

jimmarchi1

it does SOOO many things

I have no idea what makes this gadget tick but this shit is magic! it can do true vibrato as well as univibe phasing type vibrato.... it can also sound like a chorus or a fake leslie... or even a broken record or warbly old dictaphone tape. This is THE vibe pedal to put on a digital piano when you wanna play Ashes to Ashes. The big drawback is, of course, the shitty DOD switch! I dock it 1 star for that and the mediocre buffer.

as good as the daddy O overdrive is bad

given to me by a friend along with a daddy o and dan-echo... its a unique sounding distortion with very well centered treble and basscontrols, something you didn't see a lot back then. It reminds me a little of a rat, notreally though. I keep it around because its not worth much money. Comes in handy sometimes. I'm not really a dirtbox guy though. Plays well with vox amps though, and that's a good thing. The real winner of this pedal line is the dan-echo. For real, it sounds nice as heck. the distortion ain't bad, versatile but not generic.

love it, hate it

this is some kind of fet -based compressor... its a really good sounding compressor pedal but its VERY noisy. I think they reissued it but changed the circuit.

nothing else like it

I had a script logo first. That now belongs to someone famous from my hometown. I recently picked up a block logo because Iw as missing that 2 octaves down Velcro fuzz.... these are fun effects. I ehar MXRs slash pedal ahs an improved blue box built in that also does octave up, sort of a blue box meets foxx tone machine? but the blue box is so cheap that I went for just the octave down. this is a real sleeper of an octave effect that more people should try.

so cool

these are getting ahrd to find. this is a tiny little bit-reducer and phaser in a flimsy table top unit. No stomp switch or anything. I think it was intended like to be a DJ tool. this was the era of stuff like the Electrix filter factory (had one of those, sold it, regret it) so I really don't imagine they thought guitarists would be using this guy hence the delicate construction... that said, tis a fabulous and unique hardware effect. Nothing like it. A must have if you can find one. Bit reduction pedals like the screwtator just don't do the same thing that this little piece of junk can do. Different. Desert island device here.

worth buying

a friend's younger brother hipped me to the PH3 when it first came out...I mean, who uses a Boss phaser? they released a new phaser and I didn't even know it! turns out that the super phaser differentiates itself from the pack with all these useful modes... you can do 4, 8, 10, 12 stage phasing and you can set the LFO to be a ramp, a saw or 'steps'. Let your imagination do the work here!. So you're getting a cool tempo effect that's not trem or delay here in addition to the phasing. Your dad's orange phaser can't touch thata nd it costs more. Everyone needs a PH3 in their pedal drawer. Really fun with synths too.

fede_kempff

Que tal? tengo el mio recientemente , pero no logro que suene realmente bien con mis overdrives ...puede que este haciendo algo mal seguramente..mi cadena es guitarra , wah , fuzz, ep booster , overdrive 1 overdrive 2 phase...

jimmarchi1
Moderator

@fede_kempff it doesn't sound 'really good' it just sounds cool because it goes places no other phaser goes (short of certain old mutrons, and yes, I have an old mutron phazor)... experiment with the order of FX though. Also keep in mind I don't use a bunch of effects on a pedalboard and I don't usually get my overdrive from a little floor box. I play loud if I want drive.

fede_kempff

I agree! It is a great super versatile phaser, it is true what you say ... it is not the same to use the saturation of your equipment than to mix the phaser with floor pedals ... it will be a question of trying the best possible options, thanks for your contribution!

a classic

its not stereo but unlike the new stereo version it actually sounds damned cool. Nothing sounds like the electric mistress other than the deluxe electric mistress. Total tone sucker in bypass. Big surprise there, right?!

jimmarchi1

no no no

I bought this before the boss to get a hall sound. it sounded very poor to me so I got the rv2 which is somewhat more tolerable. I eventually just used a quadraverb or spx90 for hall sound on guitar back then. Much better.
