Can anyone confirm this obscure 70s bass?
I started by searching for series 1 Alembics and 70s MIJ knockoffs of alembics like the Kasuga Scorpion, but none had the double split-coil pickups, exact body and headstock shape, and maple fretboard that this SD Curlee had.
Those Matsumoku Alembic clones with the double p-bass pickups are close though. Nice.

Anyone have the new SSL2/2+ yet?
I was a tech for sam ash for a day
the SSL2+ is great, if you're let down complain to my manager LOL
Ha! If there's ever a place where I'd actually consider going full-Karen on someone, it's some hungover sales associate making it a total chore to shell out $$$ at GC... but, uh, don't do that folks.

This one took some digging, and it's my first-ever guitar spotting here on EB, so:

This pedalboard planner/layout/flow chart feature should be true to life: "small gig board", "large venue pedal board", "acoustic cafe pedal board", "box in closet", "box in garage", "box in storage space", "box in living room that we use as an ottoman"...
drawer of valuable shit from the 70s and 80s I seldom use... electric mistress surrounded by worn out socks? shit you wish you had because you weren't alive when they made it but that actually isn't so hot... so drunk don't know I'm lugged into the output pedalboard, why won't this shit work?!!!
Ha! Exactly.

ever since I got lazy about keys like 30 years ago I've been feeling the guitar shame off and on, this is a curse for guitarists who read music but aren't John Williams or like Larry Carlton... its irrational but my old man loves to tweak me about my musicianship or lack thereof
Just because I haven't played guitar since age 19, doesn't mean I'm wiz on these keyboards, lol... There's a Thom Yorke quote out there somewhere where he says something to the effect of japanese synths being better-suited to duffers like himself, and American (east coast) synths are for the Rick Wakemans... this is totally why I'm an 80s Roland guy.
I'm sure the PHDs at work would have a field day with my constant sense of musical inadequacy versus my enormous gear horde. Horde is starting to be the word too... I gotta liquidate some things just to make room. I don't even know where to put the juno next week.
You already know the answer: swap out the big stuff for their rack equivalents... vintage rack gear prices are getting crazy.

I only play guitar anymore when I want a guitar sound and then that guitar sound is usually generated very simply (even during my MIDI rig period or the multi amp rigs my hands, choice of guitar andthe tube amplifiers do all my heavy lifting tonally, FX are just that, special FX, my sound is my sound) ... but given how most guitarists these days use their amps like power amps and their tone is their pedalboard? welp, this makes sense. And my live synth rig has stomp boxes in it, not just rack units. And I'm not alone in this approach.
Many of my closest friends are guitarists, Jim. There is no shame.
One could bombard me all day long with outrageous statements re: pros & cons of true vs buffered bypass, and my blood pressure wouldn't budge one mm... nor would I even have an opinion. Who wants to live like this, Jim?... in this amoral gray blah of guitar agnosticism? Nobody, that's who.
6yalmost 6 years ago
Its a very guitar centric viewpoint but most of us are guitarists, many of us primarily or solely guitarists....
As the token non-guitarist here, this statement feels about right. If the EB folks have data that shows otherwise, I'd be surprised.

Anyone have the new SSL2/2+ yet?
Thanks for the detailed rundown, Jim. Much appreciated. I haven't purchased a 2+ yet for the same reason: I'm no longer taking my laptop everywhere. Powering one headphone amp and/or one phantom-powered mic off of +5v is no easy engineering feat... even Focusrite switched to PSU-power-only for the latest Scarlett that has 2 headphone outs... so I'm curious/suspicious how this thing preforms off of just USB power.

How can I be designated as an Artist ?
The only one of those I've heard of is Mike Paradinas.
I figured he'd be the one on your radar, given the other artists you mentioned in your EB profile. That's why he's first. :D
Also: anyone out there making electronic music should look up Raymond Scott.
He was a synth-building mentor to Bob Moog
He was putting wild modular synth sounds into TV and radio commercials decades before Suzanne Ciani
He was releasing all-electronic albums made from synths of his own creation by the early '60s
He had a fruitful career as a composer and radio bandleader before even getting into electroacoustic instruments... regardless of what country you hail from, you've heard some of his music.

I feel you and carbinax on this one.
It was a totally manageable experience for my own EB, as I didn't have that much to shuffle around. The 172 comment was just in reference to what Carbinax was up against with 173 items that were currently under one category.
I was thinking in the "..." menu there could be a an option named "Move" or "Re-save" or "Re-list" something not confusing haha, and that would essentially just bring up the save dialogue and you could uncheck the item's current list, and check another. That would at least let you shuffle items around without leaving your profile page.
If what was proposed existed, I'd use it, and this sounds like it would fit well with the current actions available in "...".
FWIW the 2 things that stick out, for me, on the current list-swapping process:
Having to re-navigate back to your EB via your profile avatar up top each time you make a list change and hit "Save", because it's either that or hitting browser back button twice, then refreshing to see the change in your EB.
Clicking on a past-tense state description, "Saved", to move an item from one list to another... I realize I'm not really describing what the problem is by stating this... but maybe after some more coffee I'll find my words...
What you proposed would solve both points... but I'm more or less done re-categorizing for the foreseeable future, so, speaking only for myself, they wouldn't be high-priority changes.

Kenneth, I just realized the juno 60 doesn't have a continuously variable high pass slider, THAT was the other reason I wanted a 6!!!!!!! For polyphonic odyssey style dual filter sweeps with the arpeggiator running! Its been so long on the quest I plum forgot. and you can't do that on a polysix!
yeah, that stepped high pass is a bummer. Do the MIDI mod, I say.

I managed to creat a list after a few attempts where nothing appeared, but I don't see any way of selecting multiple synths and moving them to a custom list. Maybe I just can't see the wood for the trees, so if it's there and I just can't see it in front of my nose, I'd be grateful if someone could point it out. Cheers !
The ability to create, rename, and reorder lists is only a few days old, AFAIK. At the moment, I don't think there is a way to move items to different lists in-bulk, it's a one-item-at-a-time reassignment via:
- Click on item within your Equipboard
- Click orange "Saved" button
- "Create List" if you haven't created it already
- uncheck the previously-assigned list, and check the new one, then Save.
- Repeat approx. 172 more times...

even Marc Mac?
Yes. He is even holding a mysterious piece of cool-looking suitcase synth in his profile pic, begging one of us to solve the mystery... If there was ever a British rave, jungle, and jazz-flavored-D&B pioneer that gets us, that gets the Equipboard lifestyle... it's Marc Mac. ;)

How can I be designated as an Artist ?
It's totally understandable that, after putting in over 30 years, proving you have talent and releasing 20+ albums, you'd expect to see your name counted as an Artist here.
Something to keep in mind: this database/service/community functions on Wikipedia(-ish) rules, in that you don't make your own artist page, BUT this community doesn't yet (YET!) have a Wikipedia-sized pool of contributors for every type of music... so as of right now, there are still some fairly significant artists that don't have pages and/or a lot of followers.
Consider that, as of Sept. 2020, the following electronic artists only have 1 follower/contributor each:
- Mike Paradinas (U-Ziq, Mike & Rich, founder of Planet Mu)
- Raymond Scott
- Marc Mac (4hero, Tom & Jerry, Manix)
- Park Hye Jin
- Cinthie
- Patricia
- Shamir
- Imanbek (produced a 2020 dance hit approaching 1B streams on Spotify)
(and yes, I'm the 1 page-creator/follower/contributor for each of these folks in this head-scratching list... judge away... I swear I like things people HAVE heard of too!)
As for what to do when the artist themselves creates a user profile before anyone has created an artist profile for them... I don't know... that would be a cool problem to have... we'll know the answer sooner or later. :)

Please add a "show ALL" button instead of "show more"
I'll mention 3 things:
I too have felt some frustration with the "show more" option post-redesign on both my Equipboard and in my Following list, I've occasionally wished to be able to show more items before the fold... but speaking only for myself, I don't know if "show all" would be the right solution in some of these cases, even without the performance concerns. I trust the EB Team will adjust if a lot of people note the chafe... but in my experience, there are rarely ever perfect solutions for these things.
@carbinax, dang you've got a lot of plugins. Consider me impressed. :D
If I had that many plugins, (per gchiaren's tip) I'd definitely try breaking them out into new categories, even if there was a "show all" option. Speaking only for myself, as someone who actually looks at other user's lists of plugins, I'd probably distribute between 4 or 5 categories like: Bundles, Effects, Instruments, Sequencers/MIDI and Analyzers... but you never really know how it's gonna look/feel till you just try out some changes.

Question: when will we regain the ability to change the order in which gear categories display on our own pages?
Now :)
The "sort" icon next to the list name is now used to reorder lists, and the link to reorder the gear under a list has been moved into the ... menu.
Just tried it out. Love it! Thank you!
I'm looking forward to all the personal EB page re-decorating I'll be doing this week :D

offtopic but polysix came today... kiwi midi mod... I forgot how menacing and growly this synth was. It just eats other korgs. WHOA. Nicer keybed than the prophet actually.
Congrats! I'm so glad your epic Juno search ended with a well-serviced, MIDI'd, growling beast of an investment that strengthened your faith in the big-K.
Soundclouding any of this?

I like the heart icon idea.... it would be cool if you could make favorites a category at the top maybe?
I had a similar thought when gchiaren proposed making favorites visible on your personal EB page: even if users could see hearts next to the items nearest and dearest to me, I would probably go ahead and make a new category called "Favorites" (or similar) anyway, and (once we have the ability to reorder categories), put that category at the top. Items can now belong to multiple categories, so if one wants to highlight an item in some kind of "spotlight" category, you can do that without messing up the logical tagging of the collection.
Personally, with all the work the EB Team has put into making the cleanest-possible card UI, I have mixed feelings about adding any new visual elements until the dust settles and we've all had a chance to get comfortable with all that's just been granted to us... but this is just one opinion from one user, of course.
Bu seriously, great job Giullio and Michael!
DITTO! These last two days have felt a bit like EB Christmas each time I log in. It's SO DIFFICULT to redesign without disgruntling those who invested in memorizing all aspects of the previous design... (stating the obvious) angering some existing hardcore users is more or less a consequence you have to accept to move things forward and make a better experience for the users you've yet to attract... but I'm a reasonably-established user, and I'm delighted. :D

Where can I find the list (and not only the number) of artists I am following?
The EB team is currently rolling out major design updates to our personal Equipboard pages. Looks like the ability to click on the "Following" # and be taken to the page of artists you're currently following has been temporarily removed, but I'm sure it will be back shortly. It's disappeared and re-appeared at least once during this rollout. Good catch that it's currently not working.

bug: category counter in personal EB page not updating
While logged in, on your own Equipboard page, click on an individual piece of gear to navigate to that item's page
Click orange "Saved" button, check a new item category, and uncheck the previous category, hit save to complete.
Navigate back to your Equipboard page and observe item count for the category this piece of gear previously belonged to.
Result: item count for this item's previous category remains unchanged, even though category is now 1 item smaller. E.g. One moves a rack synth from "Studio Equipment" to "Keyboards and Synthesizers" and the orange count display for "Studio Equipment" remains unchanged, instead of reducing by 1.

Question: when will we regain the ability to change the order in which gear categories display on our own pages?
A great idea, and easy enough to do. Was honestly just waiting for someone to say it!
Excellent!
You guys asked us for this one over and over and yet I haven't heard any feedback about it yet 😆... did you notice you can set any three favorites using the heart icon? And those are the three that will accompany your forum posts. Give it a shot!
Whoa!
I saw "Favorite" but hadn't gotten around to finding out what it did yet. Crystal clear once you try it, love how this is implemented/presented... and a nice quasi-CTA to help get a few more bodies interested in the forums.

Loving life with the new profile UI thus far. Cleaner, some reduction in cognitive load, but with nothing meaningful lost vs. old layout... for me at least.
Question: when will we regain the ability to change the order in which gear categories display on our own pages?
I had some fun re-naming and creating new categories this AM (awesome) but now I need to give these newly-created categories higher billing than just above my wishlist.

Artist Followers bug, anyone else seeing?
Can anyone else confirm?
Confirmed. Working on a fix. Your thoroughness in explaining how to replicate the bug is appreciated more than you know 🙂
Glad it's helpful. This was a fun one to discover. Bug is a showstopper for absolutely nobody, obviously. Low priority.

Artist Followers bug, anyone else seeing?
Go to any artist page with one or more folowers, click the orange number indicating # of followers.
Close the resulting dialog, then click on # of followers again to reopen it.
Result: results are progressively duplicated each time dialog is opened. EG, 2 followers become 4, 6, 8, etc each time dialog is reopened while on that page.
Browser: Safari, Chrome OS X
Happens regardless of login state
Can anyone else confirm?

I'm looking to buy a Juno 6, not 60, 6.... USA 110-120v wall voltage
the polysix is actually 1 oscillator too, its just VCO, the midi is a retrofit. They came out about the same time give or take 6 months. 81ish. The poly6 isn't as tuning stable and its 1 wave shape at a time, but its otherwise similar architecture.
Oh the shame! I really thought the both the poly6 and 61 were dual osc, not just the 61. Thank you for correcting.
I DID know that the 6 was originally MIDI-less... I was assuming a Juno-6/60 with a retrofit would cost hundreds more... perhaps I'm mistaken there too...
Your experience mirrors my own in a way, re: trying to get "that" juno sound, only to find it was made on a Korg. I think I recounted on the thread earlier, but finding out the pad on 808 State's Pacific 202 was a Poly61, not a juno 106, as most of the internet opines, was an eye-opener.

Hard to argue against opting for the Juno's 2-OSC, MIDI-equipped competitor if price is the same. I'm sure this new PolySix will bring a ton of joy. As per usual, keep us posted if you pop any sound demos on Soundcloud.

When sorting each artist category by "most popular", I see that Mr. Parker is no longer the most-visited Producer, Drummer, Bassist, Singer, Composer, DJ, etc... The results now look like a nice compromise between this community's obsessions and general popularity within the western world in 2020. An improvement, as far as I'm concerned.
I'm curious which of these explains this previously Kevin-dominated state:
it was a bug?
a good portion of this community is, at least right now, dudes in their 30s and 40s obsessed with sounding like Tame Impala, so the sorting algorithm had to recieve some curatorial re-weigthing to make the results less awkward?
