I'm pretty spoiled by the craigslist synth market here in LA. If I decide to go for one, it will have rack ears, it will be tested and working, and I will pick it up from the owner and have a nice socially-distanced synth conversation to boot.
I'm sure you enjoy similar good fortune in NYC :D
Update: THIS is what I'm talking about, right here:

@nycsynth... oh man, you've got me so curious about this Kawai percussion module.
Was just listening to this:

Seems kinda special if you ask me.
Cheers!

Given Equipboard houses all of our wishlists, will there ever come a day when EB could inform us of the best Black Friday deals for things in said wishlists?
Would anyone else here appreciate alerts on wishlist items that happen to go on sale?
... or would this just be one more source of noise none of us have time for?

Did you manage to get it fixed? I don't see what's wrong with the entry.

Bring me the Snares of Louis Cole
All these talented users... yet none can ID the snares of master jazzer Louis Cole.
Not this one https://imgur.com/O6iYyHD
Nor this one https://imgur.com/qCz94jo
Nor even this one https://imgur.com/XDllnBh Is there no one among us who can apply make and model to the products this man so deftly pummels with sticks?

User Submitting Own Artist Page
Here's a complicated one from 6 years ago
Started by the Artist themselves, but slowly legitimized over time, picking up followers from Team EB. The gear entries all look to have been fairly thorough in the details and proof the Artist provided, but the links just died with age... I'm slowly updating them with screenshot-based entries.
I remember purchasing vinyl releases of this artist back in the early 00's, Fanu is one of the best breakbeat-slicers in the business... I'd have added him myself if he wasn't already here.
What's my point?... I don't have one... this stuff is just complicated...

Potential Bug: gear image fails to display
Okay, thanks for keeping the bug reports coming everyone! We are currently working on the backend architecture for how to add artists, but will do a round of bug fixes soon (end of this week or next) to solve these issues.
Thanks for the update, Michael. I don't think any of us expect you guys to drop everything for bugs that aren't huge showstoppers. We trust you'll pencil in an investigation when it actually makes sense schedule-wise.

also I just clicked the 'view moderators' button on the mods list (not sure why I did it) and it took me to the 'review duplicate items' page...
I've been getting that same result in Safari since the Mods list appeared.

User Submitting Own Artist Page
the assumption was Jimmy was identified... submitted his fingerprints?
How does Twitter do it?
I think, just to be safe, Team EB should fly you out to Jimmy's place for tea, biscuits, and jamming. If you say it's really Jimmy Page, after a solid face-to-face, I'll trust that.

User Submitting Own Artist Page
I feel like if maybe Jimmy fucking Page decided to start his own page he could start a user page and then edit his existing pro page by using himself as a source, because he's like, Jimmy fucking Page.... my final cent
Without a system for real world ID verification, ala Twitter verified accounts, allowing "because I'm Jimmy #@$ing Page" to stand as proof/verification of a gear spotting would be problematic.
...but I don't necessarily think an ID verification system is anything worth prioritizing right now...
...so, if @jimmypage tries updating pros/jimmy-page, I'm gonna assume it's a fake account and (very politely) ask this user to provide the same evidence everyone else has to abide by. :D
Maybe someday, in a different phase of EB's evolution, things will be totally different and top artists will have a natural motivation to maintain their own accounts here... but right now, in 2020, I'm feeling like everyone having to abide by the same standards keeps things simple.
...but I know nobody is standing around wondering what my personal feelings are on any of this, LOL... I'm just thinking out loud here...

Another one, but this time it seems his soundtracks have placed at film festivals. Does that make mebitek an exception?
Are there circumstances in which it's OK to create a wikipedia entry about yourself? Not really.
My own personal 2 cents is that an Artist profile needs to be started organically, by someone other than the artist themselves. There isn't some threshold of success that would make self-populating an artist profile permissible; it's just not done, per the standards of this site and its community.

By the way, I took care of those drumsticks for you. ;)
I appreciate the assist! Elvin's career spanned 50+ years, there is PLENTY for everyone to add to his profile.

So this is the guy who played on Coltrane's rendition of "My Favorite Things", one of my favorite songs? Thank you for posting this, I was very excited to learn that.
I'm so happy I could put Elvin on your radar! He's easily one of my favorite jazz drummers.

Update: looking at how Neil Peart and Stewart Copeland are catalogued, I'll just follow the EB categories:
Drum Kit: - log new unique entries if (most likely) identical kits aren't already in the system. e.g. "Yamaha Maple Custom Kit (1990s)"
Cymbals: - go nuts on the "old K" and Constantinople Zildjians of various sizes that are authenticated to have been used by Elvin. There isn't a lot in the database on these, but I'll try to roughly track to however Reverb categorizes and tracks prices on these
Snares: - see cymbals strategy
Sticks: - I probably won't ever get around to these
5yover 5 years ago
since you spotted the problem I'm giving this link to you https://youtu.be/x4s-jd35Q6c
do the honors and add these 3 drum kits to Elvin!
Thanks Jim!... once I tore into the task last night, I began to question what the best approach is for drum kits here. In cases where the components of the kit are also individual SKUs... is it more beneficial to the database, community, etc to log most pieces of the kit separately? Or log the kits that were sold as kits, but then also log individual pieces that get a lot of focus like the "old K" handmade rides, the various small-ish kick drums, etc?
Also, most of the detailed evidence I've found for Elvin is videos similar to the one you linked: drum shops selling "authenticated" Elvin jones pieces. If a piece of gear is authenticated (by his wife, for example) as having been personally "selected" by Elvin (as is the case with A LOT of cymbals out there) is that sufficient evidence for logging that make and model of gear to Equipboard? If one just goes off of photographic evidence of Elvin playing, you can only get as specific as "50s Gretsch kit" or "Elvin Jones Yamaha Custom kit'... these reseller and historian videos have a lot more meat on the bone detail-wise... but I personally haven't seen such videos used here before.

I love the Wendy Carlos-ness of this. I envy your scoring chops.
I'm guessing 9 of every 10 entries in this contest stitched together thundering Hans Zimmer BRAAAMs and called it a day.
I got trounced thoroughly.... the runners up were all Hans Zimmer, yes.... the winner sounded like donkey kong. Shit you not...
I listened to the winner last night, as part of the Spitfire results video. I haven't watched any Westworld, granted, but the winner's abrupt transition to a gameboy sound pallet made me wonder if someone was trying to insert a gag. At least the judges have a sense of humor....?...
5yover 5 years ago
I think I was able to fix it. WEIRD bug, good catch. Try adding Elvin Jones again. I promise Equipboard loves jazz! Miles Davis radio is a go-to station on whatever streaming app I happen to have handy at the time 😁
He's in, and lookin' good y'all!!!
Thank you!!!

identifying yuuho kitazawa's telecaster
i do have a screenshot from one of the music videos where the camera is behind her and the serial number is visible, but too blurry to read. perhaps if we can somehow enhance the photo we can find out if it is a MIJ or not
https://media.discordapp.net/attachments/773386370478637088/774073373613228082/tele_back.jpg
Well at least with this pic, I think we can rule out this being an original 1970's Telecaster. The tint and gloss of the neck down't look like that of a 40+ year old instrument. To state the obvious, many classic/classic style Fenders are near impossible to ID from concert photos alone, given all the reissues and marginally-distinct variants out there... thus the general "Fender Telecaster" and "Fender Stratocaster" entries here on EB with hundreds of artists logged each... you're scratching harder at this than a lot of users here bother to do, and for that you have my respect... however little that may be worth :D. Cheers!

I don't hate jazz, I played guitar in jazz band in highschool and college
Too bad you wasted so many years on an invalid genre...
5yover 5 years ago
Update: The Equipboard Team and this community love all music... even jazz! This was just an amusing bug that deemed jazz as an invalid genre. Please excuse my lame post title
I tried a few times. Same results each time.
This is Elvin @#$%ing Jones... and tonight, I need to take my mind off the world and log some ride cymbals... ride cymbals all night long... I want Zildjian-flavored nightmares for a change... please!
How best to work around this?

identifying yuuho kitazawa's telecaster
they sued to make one that was an exact match, I knew someone with an early serial MIJ reissue, maybe an A serial? somethinglike that.... exactly that tele custom. 90s or maybe late 80s
Maybe it's here ?

identifying yuuho kitazawa's telecaster
I looked through all the MIJ tele customs I could find before my original post, and nothing was an exact match... but nonetheless I agree, I'd be shocked if it wasn't ultimately an MIJ model that just didn't have a high volume run with that color + fretboard config.

identifying yuuho kitazawa's telecaster
that looks like the right one! thank you!
No sweat.
It could still ultimately be a neck swap of a handful of different 70s Tele Customs, as you theorized, or a neck-body pairing that was factory-born, but just not very well publicized in the usual corners of the internet... I'm sure others will have some thoughts.

Interesting. I'm no expert, but only factory-official combo of that fretboard, headstock, body, and color that I'm aware of is the now-discontinued Classic Series 72 Deluxe

Fender Flea Jazz Bass with wrong neck plate
If you love everything else about it, and there are no finish flaws or signs of damage, I'm with Jim. Give the seller a few days to send you the correct plate before risking getting a bass with the right plate, but some ailment the first bass didn't have.

Iris 2 is free on Plugin Boutique (for a limited time I'm guessing)
Enter IRISBP to checkout on Plugin Boutique for iZotope Iris 2 & it should mark down the price to $0. Source is from the guy who designed the UI itself.
Even if you don't wind up liking it, you just got a $150 synth for free... so enjoy... LOL!
Tried it, and got:
"This website is under heavy load (queue full)
We're sorry, too many people are accessing this website at the same time. We're working on this problem. Please try again later."
And when the site finally came back, the coupon code had been pulled... meaning it no longer works.
Regardless, 1k thanks for passing this our way while there was still a chance. cheers!

Also... Dave goes to Movement annually?!? As if I didn't respect this guy enough already...
"There's a couple of shows and things we do like to travel to. One of our favourites is the Movement Festival in Detroit. It's all three days of techno music and we have a whole lot of DJ friends and we just go and it's an absolute blast. It's just so much fun and we couldn't go this year and it's so sad but anyway, soon we hope."

tb-303 clones, why I stopped grumbling and bought Uli's TD3 even though I don't need it
I’ve made it work other ways but that’d def be nice
I'm glad you found a workable path for your CV needs.
ya know... if the +/- 3.5v on the M4 actually does work great for CV duties with the 2 extra line outs... I'll just wish it had 14 more outs. lol.

tb-303 clones, why I stopped grumbling and bought Uli's TD3 even though I don't need it
and okay, actually, they are the same converters apogee uses currently... I mean, it ain't prism, antelope, burl... but that's next level and I'm not sure I can hear that anyway
No #@$%? No wonder the M4 isn't in-stock anywhere.

tb-303 clones, why I stopped grumbling and bought Uli's TD3 even though I don't need it
... , but the motu M series stuff will definitely outperform either in conversion and latency. The Sabre DACs really are superior. And the output circuitry is higher voltage, higher headroom, higher bandwidth and really takes advantage of them... motu has superior hedphone amps too. I was actually thinking of buying and M2 and selling my SSL.
there's always the newer, better thing, but I don't expect you will run into better conversion at this price point for some time...
You speak, I listen. Thank you.
For the last few years, I just rough everything out with soft synths before I get to the analog domain, so for the latency perf alone, I need to go MOTU. I won't expect the converters to be on par with Apogee, AU, Prism, Antelope or RME, but the fact that you, with your years of studio experience, are happy with what MOTU is offering right now carries a lot of weight with me.

tb-303 clones, why I stopped grumbling and bought Uli's TD3 even though I don't need it
Soon as those came out I wished I’d waited & gone w/ MOTU...
Dammit...
eh, audio interfaces, powered speakers, and midi controllers are all commodity items. There will always be something superior on the market 6 months later. As soon as I get an M4, it will be reduced to relative dog meat by some sexy new budget interface.
The only reason I held off getting the SSL2+ was the pandemic... it pretty much eliminated my need to use a DAW offsite in 2020.

Dave Smith, honorable businessman
I like that he admitted he lost all his top end hearing in the 60s...
"I saw a bunch of cool bands before you were born" is better than directly age-shaming oneself. I don't think anyone makes it to 70 with all the hearing they had in their 20s. Just a fact of life.
... I have dreams of buying the proph10
Dream that dream Jim! It's a good one.

Clarity, transparency, humility, and a generous approach to making things right.
Of the many things one is paying for when one drops $3500 + tax on an instrument, I'm glad to hear that these 4 qualities are also included.
Cheers to Dave Smith and the Sequential PR Team for how they are handling this.

How best to handle Ableton Live 9 versioning?
I appreciate your consideration and attention here gchiaren, thank you.
That said, I didn't make my case in this original post very cleanly/effectively, so I doubt it will inspire anyone else in the community to chime in.
When I have the time, maybe I'll mock up how nice and clean single entries for Ableton Live and FL Studio could look, with 1,000+ artists attributed to each... and maybe folks here will feel this makes more sense than adding separate entries for every major version # and edition change-up over the next 20 years of Equipboard's life... but maybe they won't. lol.
Maybe the community wants to eventually have 8 different versions apiece of ProTools, Live, and FLStudio logged to Daft Punk's profile? If this is their will, so be it.
I am truly and honestly AOK to live with any approach; I will log things in whatever way is agreeable to most moderators, admins, and anyone else who cares. It's the void in agreement/guidance that I was originally looking to clarify; I'm not ride-or-die for any one approach... I just seek consensus.
