seeking a Strat, only lighter

I would suggest something made of Basswood, I belive it's one of the lightest Body woods, maybe route out under the pickguard as eyeseeofficial suggested. Squier has one model called the Cyclone, it's basicly a Mustang body with Strat pickups and Jaguar switches, I know its not a Strat, but to my experince with Mustangs they have a thin, lightweight body. This guitar has the Strat pickups with a thin body and a tremolo which would relive more weight so... something to think of I guess.

My personal experience with basswood is that, while it is indeed light, it is also soft AF. I had to take my pick guard off my basswood MIJ Strat a few times for various reasons, and by like the third time little chips/chunks of wood were coming off around the screw holes... and threads were shot on a few holes already... even though I was as careful as a brain surgeon in unscrewing/re-screwing by hand... and even the thick poly finish wasn't enough to protect it. It will ding just by looking at it funny.

Bug: another item image fail

If it doesn't appear immediately, 9 times out of 10, something went wrong. This has been an ongoing bit of strangeness with updating item images. Glad it's not just me though. :D

Bug: another item image fail

Tried to update the image of the PureSalem Mendiola to one from their website. Used a nicely-cropped screen-grab PNG in case the website image was an "odd" jpeg... no luck. Hosed again. what is causing this?

Artists that need more gear!

Okay I'll have just a quick question: Why is there a page dedicated to Riley Reid?! https://equipboard.com/pros/riley-reid And there's a bass submitted which was taken from some random pic of her holding a bass. Is this some kind of legit joke :))))) ??

With no disrespect to Ms. Reid and any musical ambitions she may have, it's likely just someone having a laugh.

The "Artists Who Need More Gear" section is ranked by # of page views, as confirmed above. So maybe a better question is: why is Riley Reid's profile the 7th most-visited profile with less than 5 pieces of gear?!?

Last year, Robert Downey Jr.'s profile was high on this same list... until someone assigned him more gear. It seems if your name is googled a lot, as Ms. Reid and RDJ's certainly are, your Equipboard page gets more visits too... even if music isn't what you're primarily known for... I guess?

no but the one who married Cameron Crowe, the guitarist, I had such a huge crush on her in the 80s

that's it probably, although those washburn bird series guitars and basses are MIJ and there are very similar Japanese branded models around...

I saw the headstock of this artist's bass from another vantage point during my image searching, and while I still couldn't make it out completely, it was shaped, colored, and positioned like the Washburn logo of that era... but I hear you that there was all kinds of brand shenanigans/cloning going on for MIJ guitars back then.

I personally still own a mid 80s Falcon and had a Hawk or an Eagle or something from the late 70s at one point, the Nancy Wilson model.... or is Anne the hot one? I always forget

If you're in Heart, you're hot. End of story. ;)

Thank you so much

No problem. I enjoy a good gear hunt challenge.

Looks like the Vulture II was the model with 2 pickups, so I'm saying Washburn Vulture II.

Which bass guitar does Lori Black play in this video?

Ibanez RB888 Musician

Kind of an interesting bass, smaller/narrower body than the SR and other RB series basses Ibanez was making at the time.

Update: aka the "bean bass"... apparently Sting played a fretless version of the 1-pickup model in an early 80s tour.

or maybe it's a Vulture II, IDK, it's late.

.... the bass looks like an older MIJ bass done in the alembic style maybe...

I went through the list of basses we reviewed for the Richard McGuire Alembic knockoff, but no luck yet.

Questions On Keyboard Prices

Is the Roland GO:Keys or GO:Piano more than you were hoping to spend?

The only price class below this is the Yamaha PSR series or similar offerings from Casio... which are by no means bad, but tend to be a little more dated/cheesy than what the GO:Keys series can offer... but might be a better fit in some cases... depends on your brothers taste in keyboard sounds and how he feels about menu-diving.

Alternatively, there are entry level digital pianos around $400 from Casio and others that focus more on nicer key feel and more realistic piano emulation, at the expense of only being able to make piano sounds... or piano and a few other basics... if he already has access to a real piano, this may be redundant.

Do you think he'd be more into traditional instrument sounds (sample-based and acoustic emulation) or would he be more into adding an electronic/synth sound to his available noodling options?

others please jump in...don't let me suck the air out of the room

What if an artist uses a certain piece of gear but doesnt own it.

Also: Do you think we should make a "Borrowed Gear/Rented Gear" section on artist pages? Maybe linkable to other artists?

My $0.02, which I happily invite you to refute:

We already have the ability to mention that a piece of gear was rented or borrowed from another artist via posting notes. If you know a piece of gear is rented/borrowed, and you link out to the artist they borrowed it from in the notes, that is crazy awesome... but I don't know if I'd want to see a separate category/section in the way categories are currently implemented... depending on your screen size/resolution, you can currently only see like 8 pieces of gear on screen at once... further subdividing the categories feels like it would just make things less readable/navigable IMHO.

I AM 100% with you in that the artist should have performed with a piece of gear live or used it on record or it's kind of a useless/misleading gear spot.

Questions On Keyboard Prices

Oh man, the entry level digital piano and general purpose workstation keyboard market is a freakin' zoo... but we'll solve this.

Does your brother currently own a keyboard or piano?

How do you see him using this instrument? Bedroom practice? Recital? Playing gigs with his friends?

Would this be to support piano lessons he's taking, or to give him something to mess around and arrange nearly-complete songs with?

Update: price wise, ground floor for new/mint starts around here

Bug: updated item image fails to load

Thanks for the heads up. The jpg image itself had some weirdness, one of my image editors refused to open it. I ended up opening it and re-saving it as a jpg and that worked!

Thanks for taking a look & fixing so quickly!

...if it was format-related, then why didn't the PNG version work?

Bug: updated item image fails to load

Per this request I updated the image for the Ensoniq EPS, but after multiple attempts and different images formats, it still won't show up.

I've had this happen a few other times in the past few months, when attempting to update item images, but I can't recall which other entries at the moment. I believe, in those other cases, updating with a PNG version of the image fixed the situation, just not with this one.

Change Picture of Ensoniq EPS

I swapped out with the .jpg you linked to. Imaged shows up broken.

I swapped out that .jpg with a screenshot (png) of the image you want. Image shows up broken.

I've had this happen a few times with item images I've updated lately. I'm gonna give it a few hours to behave itself before alerting the authorities.

Sorry!

Jupiter and Juno Squad assemble!

my love of the MKS50 is illogical but insurmountable... we go way back... we were together longer than me and my wife and I adore her....

Love it. My MKS-50 is my newest synth acquisition, I've only had it a few years... and I've barely spent any time with it yet... but I have not been disappointed in the few times I've putzed around with it.

I actually have two SH-101s, but we don't allow dupes here on EB :D

Artists that need more gear!

email? people still use email for things other than work and managing their iLok etc?

Equipboard's volume of email is actually quite absurd.

The high email volume has got to be some kind of positive business indicator, so I'm happy about that... but I'm sorry to learn you and Michael have to devote so much time each week to reading and responding. Y'all have a business to run.

Artists that need more gear!

Ok, performance issues improved... I hope!?

Confirmed fixed on my side. Thank you!

...Regarding who is asking, our email volume is pretty high. We try to direct questions, complaints, and feedback to the forum here but many still prefer to speak to us in private ¯_(ツ)_/¯

THAT is surprising. Email? Stop hiding from the daylight, you cowards! (kidding... sort of...)

... but if people wanted it bad enough to email, then props to you guys for bringing it back, better than before. :)

Aha! The demanding populace reveals themselves. :D

Artists that need more gear!

Well, by popular demand, in the review page there's a new queue:

Who was the populace demanding the return of this section? Just curious.

These are artists with < 5 gear entries, ranked by # of clicks their profile has received over some recent timeframe, correct?

Performance note: when I select the Electronic tag, and hit Filter the results take upwards of 20 seconds, in both Chrome and Firefox... No such delay if i choose Guitarist and then hit Filter.

seeking a Strat, only lighter

.... swamp ash tends to be quite light. and yes, you can route out weight relief under the pickguard, there are spots....

Swamp ash was what came to mind. There's gotta be someone out there who got a nice custom strat body for a frankenstrat they never got around to building. For example, I have a gorgeous alder strat body from MJT sitting in a drawer that I swear I will one day find a neck for (it's light AF... not for sale, sorry).

Any decent parts seller on Reverb or Ebay will list the exact weight of the body they are selling.

5yover 5 years ago

seeking a Strat, only lighter

Strat-style guitars have a big range in weight, as you've pointed out. Do you know what your current MIM Strat weighs, as a starting point?

If you've already invested a lot of time/money in getting the neck and hardware just right on this current strat, what about just buying a lighter strat body and swapping neck and all current hardware to that new, lighter platform?

Charlotte de Witte: Who Can ID These Jet Engine Speakers?

I don't feel like I was much help, I mean BOAT SPEAKERS? that clever I am NOT.... but cheers

In Void Acoustic's defense, they do, apparently, make boat speakers, lots of them. These may actually be boat speakers cross-marketed as DJ monitors.

User Submitting Own Artist Page

I would suggest also considering Discogs (https://www.discogs.com/) as some kind of source/confirmation. I don't know how the submission goes there maybe some research can be done on this but I know that their database is pretty complex.

Discogs has an API that, at (very light) first glance, seems reasonable contemporary, but how viable it is, technically, for EB's needs, IDK... do you think adding Discogs to the mix would pick up a few artists that Musicbrainz misses?
