What was your first synth and is it still part of your armoury?
The first synth I ever bought was an Octave Cat mono synth for £30. I sold it for £40 to buy a Moog Prodigy which I sold for £60 to buy something else, I think it was a Yamaha CS40M. That was pretty much the last synth I sold.

You’ve mentioned in the album biog that only the synth mentioned in the title was used on its corresponding track. But with the EMS VCS3 one, you used the delay section of an EMS Polysynthi. Vince Clarke declared the Polysynthi “the worst sounding synth ever made”. Now I’m no expert but I’ve tried using one and I think it sounds horrible… what’s your take on it?
We played a synthesiser-only set, based loosely around Twenty Systems, as Paul used tracks from that [and some new sounds] with Traktor and I used modulars, monosynths and polysynths and my new Electro Harmonix 2880 looper. The full setup was:
