Dave Navarro's Guitars

In the provided image, Dave Navarro is pictured playing a Fender Telecaster. Dave also used what appears to be a telecaster live with Jane´s Addiction on the 12/4/1988 in Detroit. It is unknown whether it is a Fender, but it is a telecaster shaped guitar with maple fretboard.https://youtu.be/ICjOdsgA4GQ?list=RDICjOdsgA4GQ

During his stint with the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Dave used at least three fender stratocasters. The exact model and year is unknown, they could either be vintage ones, reissues, custom shops or standard models. So far ,there are three stratocasters confirmed to be used by Dave live. The first one is a three tone sunburst rosewood fretboard strat with a white-ish pickguard (similar to John Frusciante´s prefered strats)(can be seen at Reading festival ´94), another three tone sunburst rosewood fretboard, with a tortoise pickguard (famously seen used at Woodstock ´94), and the most iconic one- a black body, rosewood fretboard, white pickguard one, with "DAVE" written on the headstock (most famously used at Madison Square Garden ´96). All three strats were equipped with 3 single coils and a tremolo system. In the early 90s, I saw Dave Navarro playing an Ibanez RG560 White live with Jane's Addiction. In the Moshcam video "Jane's Addiction - Mountain Song | Live in Sydney," he plays a similar guitar, visible at timestamps 0:20, 1:20, 1:44, and 2:06. I believe it was equipped with Seymour Duncan Quarterpound pickups.

During later years of his RHCP career, Dave started to favor a Modulus Black Knife stratocaster. Since Flea was starting his partnership with the brand, it is possible he got this guitar as some sort of a deal, but don´t take my word for it. As for the specs, this stratocaster was similar to his fender "DAVE" one, but it is equpped with a graphite neck, the pickguard is a silver sparkle and the pickup covers and knobs are black. It also has a seymour duncan bridge pickup. Dave most famously used this stratocaster live at Tibetan freedom 1996 and Fuji Rock 1997 shows.https://youtu.be/ikKyYk6tMYI?list=RDikKyYk6tMYI https://youtu.be/wdNUmIeRjtY?list=RDwdNUmIeRjtY&t=260 According to this website: https://www.tuneyoursound.com/collection/modulus-black-knife-graphite-neck-1996-dave-navarro , Dave also used this stratocaster to record a song "Hard charger" for Howard Stern´s Private Parts movie soundtrack.

Bit of a tricky guitar to track down but is the guitar Dave used in the video. He also says in an interview from 1996 that he used an old Silvertone on some tracks, this one, as it's likely from 1960.

Dave Navarro is confirmed to have used an Ibanez RG550 during the "Nothing's Shocking" era, particularly in 1988. Notably, he played a yellow Ibanez RG550 live at Scream on August 19, 1988. This performance was featured in the official "Mountain Song" music video, where the guitar can be seen at the 0:26 mark. Additionally, still images from that show depict Navarro with the same guitar. He also played a black Ibanez RG550 at a concert in Santa Barbara on May 6, 1989. Both guitars are characterized by a maple fretboard and a tremolo system. The source of this information includes footage by Shayne Stacy, who transferred the original VHS recording.

During the Above Ground event at the Belasco on April 16, 2018, guitarist Dave Navarro was seen using a Fender Telecaster Deluxe. This instrument is notably characterized by its black body, maple fretboard on a 70s Stratocaster neck, two humbuckers, and a custom paint job. The performance is documented in a video by Jonathan Armstrong on YouTube, captioned "Above Ground event by Dave Navarro and Billy Morrison live at the Belasco 16Apr18" and features the piece "Ant Music."
