Joe Hottinger can be seen using a Gibson Flying V in this photo from MMRBQ 2012. It features a mirror scratch-plate, a mahogany body and neck, and an ebony fretboard. A 496R Ceramic magnet Humbucker for the neck pickup, and a 500T Ceramic magnet Humbucker for the bridge pickup.
Joe also used some Gibson guitars during the recording process: “I have a '59 Reissue Les Paul that I used a lot. I used my Gibson Johnny A guitar a lot.”

It was a tale of two approaches when it came to gear in the studio. Lzzy kept things stripped back, using her road gear and plugging her Explorer straight into her Marshall JCM800 2203. Joe, however...

This guitar was made for him by Tony Higbee. Hottinger captioned the post with: "Holy smokes! The devil himself @tonyhigbee knows a sucker when he sees one and he saw me a long time ago. He had this Candy Apple Green ‘68 spec ultra light Murphy lab aged scream demon made to match the 335 he had made last year. He didn’t ask me. He just knew I wouldn’t say no. It’s my fault. I looked him in the eyes. You never look the devil in the eyes."
