John K. Samson can be seen playing a double cut Gibson Melody Maker throughout The Weakerthans - Live At The Burton Cummings Theatre DVD. The earliest John was seen with this guitar was around 2001 during the touring cycle for Left and Leaving, and he has played it from Reconstruction Site onwards.
Samson used this guitar from the start of The Weakerthans up till Reconstruction Site.
John used to play a couple Ibanez Talmans during the early days of The Weakerthans. One was dark green with p-90's and the other one was black with humbuckers.
In the liner notes of Winter Wheat, it mentions that John used this keyboard.
John is seen playing a J-45 in some videos during the Provincal album era and also used it on Winter Wheat. The linear notes of these albums state that John borrows this guitar.
“I was a bit shy about this guitar when I first started playing it, because it is more adaptable and expressive than most guitars,” Samson says. “Al just kinda built what he thought would sound good for me, the kind of player that I am, and it’s beautiful. I really like it."
John K Samson is seen using an Ibanez Tubescreamer at 1:29 while performing Tournament of Hearts. This is his main overdrive and the only effect he uses.

John was seen playing a Fender Mustang Bass while performing some old Propagandhi songs at the Bowery Ballroom in NYC.
John used the Fender Deluxe Reverb during live performances with The Weakerthans and uses it for his solo performances currently.
Samson is seen playing this guitar only for one song, One Great City!, during The Weakerthans performance at the Burton Cummings Theatre. It might've been a backup to his Gibson Melody Maker during this show.
