Luther Perkins

At the Johnny Cash Museum, Luther Perkins's Sears Silvertone 1300 amp is displayed alongside his Esquire guitar, highlighting his use of this combo amplifier.

Luther Perkins, known for his work with Johnny Cash, primarily played a Fender Esquire. However, he also used Fender Jaguars and Jazzmasters, as provided by Fender, before eventually returning to the Esquire.

Fender Esquire was Luther Perkins' main guitar model. He had many of those, but he was most commonly seen with a blonde 1955 Esquire.

The longtime Johnny Cash sideman reportedly played a Bass VI on “Happy to Be With You” from 1966 Cash album Happiness is You.

Luther Perkins played a pre-production 1958 Fender Jazzmaster in Olympic White from 1959 to 1962. In 1962, he acquired another Jazzmaster but only used it once before switching to a pre-production 1961 Fender Jaguar in Fiesta Red, which he played from 1962 to 1963. A user-uploaded photo on 250r provides visual evidence of Perkins with these instruments.

Luther rarley played acoustically after Johnny Cash got big, but here be is with a Martin in the early 60s.

In a photo from the Shea Stadium concert, Luther Perkins is seen using a Fender Bassman Combo Amp, comparing the original model to a reissue.

Luther used only Fender amps with the Silvertone as an exception. In this photo, he can be seen with a gold Jazzmaster and the Deluxe Reverb.

Luther Perkins is confirmed to have used a Fender Super Reverb Amp (1963-1967), as evidenced by various photographs of Johnny Cash and The Tennessee Three, where he is seen with the amp in 1964 at the Newport Folk Festival, on stage in 1965, as well as during a televised performance in 1968.

Luther Perkins is confirmed to be an owner of The Ray Butts EchoSonic amplifier, as detailed in an article by Dave Hunter for Vintage Guitar® magazine. The article notes that fewer than 70 of these amplifiers were made, with other notable owners including Chet Atkins, Roy Orbison, and Scotty Moore.
