"I like a 1.5 mm [D’Andrea] Pro Plec. And I use Dunlop some. Sometimes I use the teardrop, and sometimes I use the three-cornered ones. For those, I usually round off a corner. I use the rounded edge of a teardrop pick more than I do its point, but you don’t get as much projection on a microphone. I tend to use a sharper pick when playing on microphones than I would use just sitting around."
According to the Premier Guitar's interview, one of the guitars Blake uses is the 1960s Yamaha FG-160.

This pedal was designed specifically for Norman Blake of Teenage Fanclub. Per the Tym Guitars website:
"I spoke with Tim about the possibility of him designing a pedal for me just over a year ago. I mentioned that I had been on the lookout for a boost pedal that would compliment the AC30 that I’ve been playing through forever. In the past I’ve used an MXR micro amp and more recently a Keeley Catana Clean Boost, which are both great one knob (the Keeley also has a switch) pedals. Both Tim and I wondered what could be done to give the Teenage Fanboost it’s own personality and character. Tim suggested that we add a knob for the selection of six stepped, fixed frequencies, specifically chosen to help cut through the mix when the boost alone wasn’t doing it. With the further addition of a gentle tone control for tweakage, the pedal design was complete. Tim made a prototype. I’ve been using it for months now and it is everything I could have hoped for. Extremely versatile. A very sweet and musical boost and I can always dial in the right frequency for whatever song I’m playing."
