Ty Tabor's Guitars

I also play a Les Paul ’50s Tribute, and it’s my favorite Les Paul. It’s a little lighter than the real ’50s, but it has the same neck, body thickness, feel, and vibe. I’ve been playing it almost exclusively.

Ty Tabor, guitarist for King's X, collaborated with Zion Guitars to develop his signature model. In 1993, Ken Hoover of Zion Guitars, who had previously built a prototype for Ty, sought assistance from a mutual friend, Eric, to refine the design. Eric, a dedicated fan and owner of Ty's backup guitar, contributed insights into Ty's gear preferences, including the amps and effects used. A key element in achieving Ty's distinctive tone was a custom preamp Eric built, inspired by the 1980s Fender Stratocaster Elite, which Ty was using at the time. This collaboration led to the creation of the Zion Ty Tabor signature guitar, as detailed by Abalonevintage.

"And believe it or not... one of my favorite guitars is a really cheap one made by Washburn. It’s called a Delta King... really inexpensive one. I got one of the older ones and set it up and it’s like the most perfect playing guitar I have."

"It is hollow body and it’s really thick wood compared to my Epiphone... and just has a super deep, rich tone. I cannot believe this thing is as inexpensive as it is because it kills! It just sounds fantastic and it plays great."
