Founded by German-born amp builder Reinhold Bogner, Bogner Amplification is a boutique tube amplifier manufacturer based in North Hollywood, Los Angeles. Bogner moved to LA in 1989 on the advice of Kansas guitarist Rich Williams, arriving with a modified Marshall and $600 in cash. He quickly gained a reputation modifying amps for top session players and rock guitarists, including Steve Stevens and Michael Landau, before releasing the company's first production model, the Ecstasy, in 1992. The Ecstasy's three-channel design and wide tonal range — from shimmering cleans to saturated high-gain — established Bogner as one of the premier names in boutique amplification.
Bogner's amp lineup spans a wide tonal palette. The Überschall delivers crushing high-gain distortion favored by metal and hard rock players, while the Shiva offers a more vintage-voiced character. The Helios draws inspiration from hot-rodded British amps, and models like the Alchemist, Metropolis, Duende, and Goldfinger round out the range. Beyond amplifier heads and combos, Bogner produces speaker cabinets and a well-regarded line of effects pedals — including the Ecstasy Red and Ecstasy Blue overdrives, the Wessex and Burnley (both featuring Rupert Neve Designs transformers), the La Grange, and the Oxford fuzz.
All Bogner amplifiers are hand-built in the company's North Hollywood facility. Notably, Bogner does not offer endorsement deals — every player, regardless of stature, purchases their amp. Despite this, the brand counts Eddie Van Halen, Steve Vai, Steve Lukather, Allan Holdsworth, Jerry Cantrell, and Keith Urban among its users, a testament to the amps' reputation for exceptional tone and build quality.
Bogner has 92 products cataloged on Equipboard, including Guitar Amplifier Heads, Combo Guitar Amplifiers, and Guitar Amplifier Cabinets. Their gear is featured by 176 artists, with the strongest followings in Rock, Metal, and Pop. Notable users include Mateus Asato, Stephen Carpenter, and André Nieri. Most Bogner products sit firmly in the high-end, boutique range.
