Diezel Amplification is a German manufacturer of high-end guitar amplifiers, founded in 1992 by Peter Diezel and Peter Stapfer. Peter Diezel began modifying Marshall amplifiers in Munich during the 1980s while studying electronics, but grew dissatisfied with the options available and set out to build a multi-channel, MIDI-capable amplifier from scratch. The company launched the VH4 in 1994, a four-channel head that became one of the most acclaimed high-gain amplifiers ever produced. In 2003, Diezel relocated from Munich to Bad Steben in northern Bavaria, where all amplifiers are hand-built in-house by a small team.
The amplifier lineup spans the flagship VH4 and its derivatives (VH2, VH-X, VH4S), the Herbert, Hagen, D-Moll, Paul, and BigMax heads. All feature Diezel's proprietary Tube-Fault Technology, which automatically removes a failed power tube from the circuit to protect the amp during performance. The company also produces front-loaded and rear-loaded speaker cabinets in 2x12 and 4x12 configurations, the Zerrer and VH4 preamp/overdrive pedals, and the Columbus and FS7 MIDI switchers.
Diezel amplifiers have found wide adoption among professional guitarists across rock and metal. Adam Jones of Tool has played a VH4 since the mid-1990s, and the brand counts players from Metallica, Muse, Alter Bridge, Mastodon, Slipknot, Korn, and many others among its users. The company has also partnered with Synergy Amps to produce preamp modules and with Plugin Alliance for official digital amp simulations.
Diezel has 34 products cataloged on Equipboard, including Guitar Amplifier Heads, Guitar Amplifier Cabinets, and Distortion Effects Pedals. Their gear is featured by 121 artists, with the strongest followings in Rock, Metal, and Electronic. Notable users include Syu, Myles Kennedy, and Ayapeta. Most Diezel products sit firmly in the high-end, boutique range.
