Mark Hoppus' Gear
We can see in this tweet of Ernie Ball, that Mark plays with Ernie Ball Super Slinky Bass strings !
As published on the official Fender website, this is Mark Hoppus' signature bass made for him by Fender.
Played various Ernie Ball Music Man Stingrays from the early days of Blink through the recording of Enema Of The State.
In this photo, posted by Mr. Hoppus 4th November 2014, he uses a sunburst-finished Telecaster with two soapbar P90 pickups. It's one of a special limited run made by Fender in 1994. The so called Junior Tele is a Custom Shop model and was a test guitar for the Custom Amp Shop in 1992. Fender only made 150 in Sunburst and 100 in Blonde finish. Later models had the smaller pickguard. This specific model was also posted by Mr. Hoppus few years earlier during a (maybe +44) recording session.

He commented it with: "In the studio. The song I started writing yesterday is evolving very fast, stuck in the punk-rock vein of the old blink-182, super excited about this! Advancing on guitars now. This guitar here is the best, Fender Tele Jr. Suggested and used by our old friend and producer Jerry Finn."
The late Jerry Finn was a famous producer for bands like Blink 182, Sum 41 and many more. He was a big fan of this model which kinda pays tribute to the Gibson Les Paul Junior. He posted some of his instruments on facebook which you can still find there (August 2021).
The specifications: Mahogany body and neck / 11 tone chambers in the body for weight improvement and resonance / Set neck / Pao ferro fretboard / 6105 fret size / 9,5" radius / 2 Seymour Duncan high output P90s / Non-locking Schaller/Fender American Standard tuners / American Standard Hardtail Bridge w/ string through / Reversed control plate with volume knob as closest to the neck for easy use / Custom Shop Logo on the back of the headstock /
An extremely rare and awesome sounding instrument. I own one by myself and I'm proud of it even soundwise as well as it's history with Blink and Jerry Finn. Tom has recorded Asthenia and many other songs with one of these.
At 0:15 in this video of Blink 182 performing at the Roxy Theatre, Mark Hoppus can be seen using a Fender Jaguar bass.
In this video Mark hoppus - a day in life, Mark Hoppus goes through some of his bass guitars. From 2:02 to 2:25 he talks about his 1963 Fender Bass VI in a white finish:
"…this one is really cool. This is a 6-string bass. It’s a Fender Bass VI it was made in 1963. They only made them for a few years and they only made between 700-1000 of these. It’s built like a guitar but it’s an octave lower. The Beatles and The Cure use this a lot. A lot of what you think is guitar on Cure records I found out is actually this Bass VI and that’s why it sounds so spooky and weird."
Also, in this performance of Blink 182 playing I Miss You live in Minneapolis, at the 0:52 mark, Hoppus can be seen using a blue Fender Bass VI.
"Tracking with Petey today. This was most of the bass on Enema of the State."
In this video Mark shows off the bases he tours with. For this tour he used Fender Jaguar basses. one of the bases he uses is in a custom Pink color. He has become synonymous with using pink basses over the years. all of his basses are fitted with a single knob, as well as a duncan quarter pounder p bass pickup set
In the video, Mark Hoppus holds up an orange Dunlop Tortex Standard 0.60mm Guitar Pick to the camera. While it appears to be the standard size, its dimensions seem slightly larger than typical and smaller than the shield shape.
At 3:00 in this video, Mark can be seen playing his Precision Bass. The video is of Blink 182 live at Shoreline Amphitheater, CA in 1999.
In this interview with Guitar Center, Hoppus was asked: "Do you use any tube amps in the studio?" Mark: "Oh yeah, definitely. We used an Ampeg SVTCL on the entire "Take Off Your Pants and Jacket" album."
Mark Hoppus uses the Neumann U87 condenser microphone, as seen in his Instagram post where he mentions its involvement in recent vocal recordings.
This microphone was used to record all of the vocals from Enema Of The State throughout Neighborhoods. Mark's go to microphone of choice. This is the one. Latvian made in a special edition color. Just serviced by Blue.
In 2020, Mark Hoppus did a reaction video on the (Blink 182) MTV Untitled Album. In the MTV video, Mark Hoppus states, “Hey, look! There is my microphone. That is my Blue Bottle microphone. That was the one. That was the one that I bought and then the kind people at Blue actually took the blue sleeve of that and powder coated it hot pink for me. That’s the mic.” Mark says this at 26min 12sec in this YouTube video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=llpV2uw-6rY
Mark switched from SVT's to the New Vintage Undertow 300 when his band blink182 returned from hiatus. He powers three New Vintage 8x10 cabs that have Nyan Cat painted on the grills.
In this post mark shows off his custom jazzmaster. This is his main recording guitar. He has a single shawbucker humbucker in the bridge. The guitar also has a evertune bridge to allow for string bends without getting pitchy or going out of tune

Mark Hoppus was a long time user of this pedal, photo of the live pedalboard from the Untitled era tour show the pedal along with other pedals from the same era, it was used for both pre-amp and distortion
In 2020, Mark Hoppus did a reaction video on the (Blink 182) MTV Untitled Album. In the MTV video (at 28min 24sec) Mark says “Hey! That’s my Roland synth bass. That and somebody was asking me on Discord or on Twitch or on somewhere about the basses used in ‘Always.’ And I went out with Jerry Finn to this place called …what was it called … Black Market …Music. It was on La Cienega …it was this place where you could buy old gear and we went there just looking for music gear and I found that bass to play on ‘Always’ cuz it was like a bass that you plug in to this giant pedal board that puts out these synth sounds (Roland GR-77b). And so that’s the bass.” The YouTube video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=llpV2uw-6rY
Black Market Music was located at 841 North La Cienega Boulevard, West Hollywood California 90069.
In this photo (taken in July 1996), Mark appears to be using an Ampeg SVT-410HE.
In this live performance we can see Mark playing a Fender Precision Bass
Mark has uploaded this picture on instagram of the Way Huge's Swollen Pickle Fuzz
Mark's First Bass. His father bought it for him when he was 15 years old. (1987-1988). The picture I showed is a still from blink's episode of "The Road Home" which aired on MTV2 in 1999-2000. Which means that it is most likely donated to MTV from Mark's mother, or sister. It also appears in Anne Hoppus' book; "blink-182: Tales From Beneath Your Mom". The specifications are exactly the same as a Mako TB-2 bass.
"Today's setup. Jaguar bass, Bass Micro Synth, Sonic Alienator."
Not sure it Mark ever used this live. But he recently sold this custom Nash PB63 through reverb.com
