Polytone is a Southern California–based amplifier maker founded in 1968 by accordionist Tommy Gumina, who originally developed the brand's circuitry as a way to amplify and shape the sound of his accordions. The company built a quiet but devoted following among jazz players for its small, lightweight solid-state combos that delivered clean headroom and a warm, articulate tone — qualities that working jazz guitarists tend to prize over the high-gain character favored in rock. Gumina also co-founded Polytone Records in 1987 alongside guitarist Joe Pass.

The Mini-Brute series, introduced in 1976, became the company's signature product line and a fixture on the jazz circuit. Variants such as the Mini-Brute II, III, and IV pair a single 12" or 15" speaker with a compact cabinet and enough clean wattage for club and theater work, making them a common gigging choice for guitarists who want a portable amp with a vintage jazz voicing. Polytone has also produced bass amplifiers, pickups, and accordion amplification over its history.

The brand has historically operated with minimal marketing and no major retail presence, relying largely on word of mouth within the jazz community. Players associated with Polytone amps include Joe Pass, George Benson, Howard Alden, Jimmy Bruno, and Bruce Forman, among others.
