Randall Amplifiers was founded in 1970 by Don Randall, who had previously served as president of Fender and is credited with naming iconic instruments and models including the Stratocaster, Telecaster, Precision Bass, and Twin Reverb. After departing from Fender, Don Randall launched his amplifier company with a focus on solid-state technology, building FET transistor circuits that became benchmarks in the field and defined the brand's early identity.
The brand became deeply embedded in hard rock and heavy metal culture through relationships with guitarists including Dimebag Darrell of Pantera, who used Randall solid-state heads across multiple albums, and George Lynch of Dokken. In the early 2000s, Randall collaborated with engineer Bruce Egnater to develop the MTS (Modular Tube System) platform — a series of tube amplifier heads with interchangeable preamp modules that let players swap tonal characters without purchasing separate amplifiers. The system attracted a following among players seeking flexible high-gain tones.
Around 2011, Randall enlisted high-gain amp designer Mike Fortin as chief engineer, ushering in a new generation of tube amplifiers including the 667 and the Thrasher. The Fortin partnership also produced signature models such as the Satan amp, developed with The Haunted guitarist Ola Englund. Additional signature lines include Kirk Hammett of Metallica and Scott Ian of Anthrax. Randall's current catalog covers guitar amplifier heads, combo amps, speaker cabinets, sound isolation cabinets, and effect pedals.
Randall has 165 products cataloged on Equipboard, including Guitar Amplifier Heads, Combo Guitar Amplifiers, and Guitar Amplifier Cabinets. Their gear is featured by 115 artists, with the strongest followings in Rock, Metal, and Electronic. Notable users include Ola Englund, Dimebag Darrell, and Dan Donegan. Randall's catalog spans the full price spectrum — from entry-level options to high-end flagships.
