Founded in 1983 by Bob Waller and Jim Chowning in the suburbs of Detroit, Michigan, Rocktron is a manufacturer of guitar signal processing equipment, effects pedals, preamps, and MIDI controllers. The company made its name with the HUSH noise reduction system — the first single-ended noise reduction designed specifically for guitar — which became an industry standard. Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, Rocktron built a reputation for innovation, introducing products like the first touch-sensitive digitally-controlled multi-effects preamp and the Intellifex, the first 24-bit DSP effects processor. In 2000, GHS Corporation (maker of GHS Strings) acquired Rocktron and relocated operations to Battle Creek, Michigan.
Rocktron's product line spans rack-mount preamps like the Piranha and Prophesy series, the Velocity power amplifiers, the Banshee Talk Box, the All Access MIDI foot controller, and various stompbox effects including the Cyborg digital pedal line. Their gear has been adopted by a wide range of professional guitarists and bands, including Dave Mustaine (Megadeth), Kerry King (Slayer), Dan Donegan (Disturbed), Max Cavalera (Soulfly/Sepultura), Warren Haynes, Iron Maiden, Lamb of God, Def Leppard, and Rammstein, among many others.
Rocktron has 120 products cataloged on Equipboard, including Effects Processors, Noise Gate Effects Pedals, and Distortion Effects Pedals. Their gear is featured by 166 artists, with the strongest followings in Rock, Metal, and Electronic. Notable users include Stephen Carpenter, Gustavo Cerati, and Kerry King. Rocktron's catalog spans the full price spectrum — from entry-level options to high-end flagships.
