Schaller GmbH is a German manufacturer of guitar and bass hardware based in Postbauer-Heng, Bavaria, near Nuremberg. Founded in 1945 by toolmaker and radio mechanic Helmut Schaller, the company started out repairing radios and building amplifiers and loudspeakers before shifting to guitar components in the early 1950s, supplying European makers like Framus and Höfner and later American brands including Fender, Gibson, and Martin.
The company is best known for its precision-engineered tuning machines — including the M6, M4, GrandTune, and Lyra series — as well as Tune-o-matic style bridges, locking tremolo systems, and the S-Locks strap-locking system introduced in 1981, which became one of its most widely adopted products. Schaller has also been an official licensed manufacturer of the Floyd Rose tremolo since 1983 and produces its own LockMeister tremolo. Other offerings include Megaswitches, the Oyster contact pickup, and a range of smaller parts and accessories.
All Schaller products are manufactured in-house at the Postbauer-Heng factory under the "Made in Germany" label. The brand operates both as an OEM supplier to major guitar builders and as a parts maker for independent luthiers and players, and its hardware is frequently specified as stock equipment on higher-end production instruments.
Schaller has 26 products cataloged on Equipboard, including Tuning Machine Heads, Guitar Bridges and Tailpieces, and Straps & Strap Locks. Their gear is featured by 51 artists, with the strongest followings in Rock, Electronic, and Metal. Notable users include Billy Corgan, Mark Hoppus, and Mikey Way.
