Soundelux is a microphone manufacturer based in the United States, focused on large-diaphragm condenser designs that reference classic European studio microphones. The brand's mic division was founded in 1995 by designer David Bock, who had previously worked as a studio technician at Hyde Street Studios and Ocean Way, where he maintained and repaired vintage tube microphones. The original line was bankrolled by the Hollywood sound post-production company Soundelux, which employed Bock as its technical lead.
The company is best known for the U95 multi-pattern tube condenser, the U195 large-diaphragm FET cardioid, the U99 multi-pattern tube condenser, and the E47, a microphone that drew on the voicing of the Neumann U47. The U195 in particular became a studio staple for vocals, toms, guitar amps, and kick drum thanks to its forward midrange and high-SPL handling. After the parent company exited manufacturing, Bock continued producing related designs under the Bock Audio name, and later reintroduced updated versions of the U195 and U99 under the Soundelux USA banner.
Soundelux microphones are hand-built in small quantities and sold primarily through boutique pro-audio dealers such as Vintage King and Retro Gear Shop. The brand's reputation in the recording community centers on its mix of vintage-inspired tonal character with modern build quality, and its mics are often cited alongside other boutique American mic makers for tracking vocals and acoustic sources in professional studios.
