Founded in 2013 by American musician David Arthur Brown and Russian entrepreneur Pavel Bazdyrev, Soyuz is a boutique microphone manufacturer known for handmade tube and FET microphones. The brand name comes from the Russian word "союз," meaning "union" or "alliance" — a nod to the company's cross-cultural roots combining Russian precision engineering with Western industrial design and quality control. Manufacturing takes place at "The Base," a dedicated facility in Tula, Russia, a city with a deep history of metalworking and home to Oktava, Russia's oldest microphone factory, from which Soyuz recruited experienced engineers and machinists. The company also maintains offices in Los Angeles.
Soyuz's flagship 017 Series large-diaphragm condensers (available in Tube and FET variants) have become a go-to vocal microphone for top-tier engineers and producers, including Nigel Godrich (Radiohead, Beck), Ryan Hewitt (The Lumineers, Red Hot Chili Peppers), Sylvia Massy, and Butch Walker. The 023 Bomblet is a versatile FET condenser used on drums, guitar amps, and vocals, while the 013 Series small-diaphragm condensers are prized for their transient response on acoustic instruments. The 1973 is a more accessibly priced large-diaphragm FET condenser, and the V1 Dynamic — developed with input from artists across genres including Beck, LCD Soundsystem, and My Chemical Romance — represents the company's entry into dynamic microphones. The Launcher and Launcher Deluxe are inline devices featuring custom hand-wound transformers that add warmth and color to dynamic and ribbon microphones.
Soyuz microphones have been used on recordings by Coldplay, Radiohead, The Lumineers, Paramore, and Shawn Mendes, among others. Every microphone is built entirely in-house using manual equipment and hand assembly, with each unit individually tested before shipping.
