DPA Microphones is a Danish manufacturer of professional condenser microphones, headquartered in Kokkedal, Denmark, with production at a facility in Asnæs. The company was founded in 1992 as Danish Pro Audio by Ole Brøsted Sørensen and Morten Støve, two former engineers from Brüel & Kjær, whose measurement-microphone heritage dates back to the 1950s. That scientific lineage shapes the brand's reputation for linear, low-distortion capsules aimed at broadcast, live sound, classical recording, theater, and film production.
The catalog spans miniature lavalier and headset microphones, handheld vocal capsules, pencil and instrument condensers, shotguns, gooseneck models, and the N-Series digital wireless system. DPA is perhaps best known for its miniature range — the 4060/4061 omnidirectionals and the d:screet and d:fine headset lines — alongside larger-diaphragm studio staples like the 4006 omnidirectional and 4011 cardioid pencil condensers, and the d:facto vocal microphone. A 2017 update introduced CORE preamplifier technology, which was extended with CORE+ alongside the N-Series wireless platform.
DPA microphones are widely used in classical orchestra recording, Broadway-style musical theater, and touring sound reinforcement, where the miniatures are common choices for discreet lavalier placement and for close-miking acoustic instruments. A DPA 4006 was also fitted to NASA's Perseverance rover and captured some of the first audio recorded on the surface of Mars.
DPA has 76 products cataloged on Equipboard, including Condenser Microphones, Wireless Microphones, and Dynamic Microphones.
