Critic Reviews

Emu Procussion (SOS Jul 91)

muzines.co.uk

The E-mu Pro/Cussion is a groundbreaking percussion module, revered for its ability to produce drum parts with an uncanny realism and human feel. With 32-voice polyphony and a unique stacking architecture, it offers unparalleled flexibility in sound design, making it stand out in a crowded market of drum machines. Its modulation capabilities, especially the innovative Trigger Tempo feature, allow for nuanced, authentic drum performances. While the absence of analog trigger inputs might slightly limit old-school drummers, its MIDI responsiveness and expansive sound palette more than compensate. Overall, the Pro/Cussion is a top-tier choice for musicians seeking dynamic and lifelike percussion sounds.

E-MU Systems Pro/cussion (MT Oct 91)

muzines.co.uk

The E-mu Pro/Cussion is a powerhouse for rhythm enthusiasts, offering a vast library of drum and percussion samples that cater to creative sound programming. Its user-friendly interface and flexible editing options allow for a wide range of sonic possibilities, making it a valuable tool for contemporary music production. However, the limitations in the number of user-programmable Stacks per Kit and basic filtering options might leave some users wanting more. Despite these drawbacks, its ability to expand on built-in samples effectively compensates for the lack of external sample slots. Overall, it's a compelling choice for those seeking dynamic and punchy rhythm tracks.

Party like its 1989!

What this single rack mounted percussion module may lack on the front plate, Looks are deceiving when this thing starts pounding out crushing beats straight out of the internal circuitry and that airy reverb is already applied with no internal or external FX processing at all.
