Description

Introducing the Behringer Neutron, a semi-modular analog synthesizer that is a true playground for sound enthusiasts. With a radiant red, this synth offers a blend of versatility and punchy output that sets it apart from the pack. With a duet of morphable-waveform oscillators and a generous array of modulation options, the Neutron can craft a wide range of sounds, from searing leads that'll strip the paint off club walls, to massive basses that will bring them down.

The Behringer Neutron is a semi-modular synth, which means it features a normalled signal path that produces sound without any patching. But when you're ready to go further, its massive 56-point patchbay offers a level of flexibility that rivals many fully modular synthesizers. You can wire up your own signal paths, overriding the manufacturer's choices with patch cords that connect to patch points within the instrument, or externally to other gear.

The Behringer Neutron is an original design, a collaboration between Behringer and the experts at Midas in England. This all-analog beast uses the reissued Curtis CEM3340 chip — a key component of classic 1970s synthesizers. This synth is not just a powerhouse, but also a great value, offering a mind-boggling degree of sonic versatility.

Behringer Neutron Synthesizer review | MusicRadar

musicradar.com

The Behringer Neutron synthesizer offers impressive value for money, boasting a flexible patchbay and classic VCO chip for rich, vintage tones. Its versatility makes it perfect for both conventional and experimental soundscapes. However, the unit suffers from filter saturation and delay bleed issues. Despite these minor flaws, its affordability and engaging features make it a standout choice for synth enthusiasts.

Review: Behringer Neutron | Moinsound's Blog

wordpress.com

Behringer's Neutron is a surprise hit in the semi-modular synth market, offering a unique sound with strong bass presence and warmth, all at an unbeatable price. While its size may be cumbersome and it lacks linear FM inputs, these drawbacks are outweighed by its impressive patchbay and flexibility. Ideal for both beginners and seasoned synth enthusiasts, the Neutron is a powerful addition to any setup, provided you have the space for it.

Review: Behringer Neutron Semi-Modular Analog Synth

generastudios.com

The Behringer Neutron is a stellar semi-modular analog synthesizer that impresses with its vast feature set at an unbeatable $299 price point. It boasts dual 3340 oscillators, a robust patch bay, and a rich analog signal path, making it a dream for synth enthusiasts. Its sound quality is commendable, with a beefy detune capability and a standout analog delay effect. However, the desire for a polyphonic version lingers, as the Neutron's character seems ripe for more voices. While it fits neatly into a Eurorack, it might take up significant space. Overall, the Neutron is a remarkable bargain, offering both quality and versatility.

Sonic LAB: Behringer Neutron Analog Desktop Semi Modular Review

sonicstate.com

Behringer's Neutron is a standout in the sub-$300 synth category, impressively delivering robust VCOs and a musical filter. Despite its warm, vibrant bass, users should manage the hot signal path to mitigate distortion. The analog BBD delay adds a crunchy character, though crosstalk can be an issue. Overall, Neutron offers exceptional value, combining powerful sound capabilities with a vast patchbay, making it a compelling choice for synth enthusiasts.

fun right out of the box

this synth was fun right out of the box, but with some extra patch cables and some hardware sequencers? damn. It came with enough peripherals to enjoy right in the box, but more is always better, right? It feels like if roland decided to make an ARP2600 clone in the 80s. Its both an instrument and an intimidating sound fx generator... both musical and alien and it bridges the gap between 70s and 80s subtractive sounds perfectly having the cutting power of an Odyssey, a filter that can go from roland to oberheim and a lushness that makes me think mono Jupiter. I'm absolutely in love with this thing and I own a lot of synths. It feels awfully sturdy for a Behringer product. The value for dollar is insane. Expect an extended review with demos published on Equipboard soon.

Lots of function for the money

Doesn't sound amazing but I mostly use it for modulation options with my other semi-modular synths. You get a lot of fun stuff in the patch bay, but it's also useful by itself if you want. I found the oscillator tuning knobs to be a bit finicky, but the option to have it be paraphonic with 2 voices can make for some interesting sounds. Definitely worth the money simply for the modulation of other gear, either Eurorack or semi-modular stuff.

There's a reason why this synth is so popular!

Ken Mesford of the band SL9 introduced the Neutron to me. I didn't think I would be interested in this synth at first, but now I can't get enough of it. It just sounds and feels good to the ears and it's versatile. I get some really cool tones out of it and it's just fun to experiment with because it has a unique character to it. I'm not sure, but I think this synth shares the same oscillator and filter as the MS-1 which I think is modeled on the Roland SH-101. This is just a fun synthesizer to work with!

john_withers

Good features, great price!

I am still learning how to use this but it can produce some great sounds. For the price it is a very full featured synth voice and I envision using it for basses and leads and sound effects and whatever once I integrate it into my rig. Just fooling around with it has produced both lovely sounds but often speaker jarring sounds as well! I have to learn how to tame this red devil! hehe

Amazing

Great synth with a awesome box of tricks. That one will stay for sure. 5 years ago i would not believe that i will buy stuff from Behringer, and now have i bought 2 Analog Synths from Behringer in the last 2 month.( Model D and then Neutron ) They should stay with analog gear, suits them well

Drone beast!

It's the perfect drone beast. You can easily start patching and learn about modular synthesis if you want. Love it so much.

kidsonic

Wicked for Sound design, Behringer have definitely upped their game!!!

Behringer has always had a reputation for being shoddy and cheap, however, since being bought out by Music Tribe (Who Also own Klark Teknik, Midas, and others) they have become MUCH better for Build Quality, and AMAZING sound Quality!! This synth is semi Modular so is really good for Sound Design.

morten_vammen

Beast.

This really is a beast of a mono. Cracking modern design in the wake of their call next onslaught. Tuning knobs are a bit of a pain though, easily knocked and too big. Those should have been the filter knobs.

ecco_aqua

great value

really great value for some super phat oscillators. the overall features of this per dollar beat out any other modular cv gear available
