Critic Reviews

Alesis Midiverb III (MT Mar 90)

muzines.co.uk

The Alesis Midiverb III impresses with its cost-effective multi-effects capabilities, offering a robust 16-bit audio performance and extensive MIDI control, suited for both studio and live use. Its programmability and 100 factory presets deliver solid reverb and delay effects, though the delay is limited to 490ms, which may not satisfy some users. The chorus and flanging effects are usable but not groundbreaking. The unit's interface, while functional, is marred by an outdated three-digit LED display, complicating navigation without a manual. Despite these drawbacks, it provides excellent value for its price, making it a strong choice in a crowded market.

Alesis MIDIverb III (SOS Jan 90)

muzines.co.uk

Alesis MIDIverb III is a solid choice for musicians seeking an affordable yet capable reverb unit with added effects versatility. While not as powerful as the Quadraverb, it surpasses its predecessor, the MIDIverb II, with full programmability and real-time MIDI control. The reverb, delay, chorus, and EQ sections offer a respectable range of sound, though they lack the depth of higher-end units. Its limitations include a short maximum delay time in most configurations and a somewhat basic user interface. However, given its price point, the MIDIverb III delivers excellent value and sound quality, making it a strong contender in its category, especially for those who don't require the full versatility of pricier models.

obviously you don't know a thing about using this piece of gear... there is no remote control unit for the midiverb 3 so I don't know what you were trying to use on it. This is a very old unit, you cannot expect much from a 16 bit 15 kHz unit from 1990 except character. This isn't to be used as a convolution reverb nor should one expect sound effects that rival something costing thousands of dollars; that said when used judiciously I've fooled many professional engineer's listening to mixes with this a Roland 12 bit DDL that I was using much more expensive signal processing. Spend 10 minutes with the manual and you can easily tweak and program with the front panel and save easily.

Posted my review to the wrong alesis unit years ago. I still don't like the midiverb but the Iii is the most usable one. Still sounds terrible

Nathan and Matt's current studio is quite compact, and is still based around Cubase VST running on a fast PC with an Event Gina soundcard. Most of the processing is done using Sound Forge, though I did spot an Alesis MidiVerb III on the shelf above a Focusrite Compounder and a Dbx Project 1 compressor. "The Compounder is great and the bottom end control really works well to pump up the bass, but the Dbx doesn't seem to do much at all," admits Nathan.
