Post Magazine - Review: G-Technology's G-Dock ev with Thunderbolt

postmagazine.com

The G-Dock ev with Thunderbolt is a versatile external storage solution that shines in a production environment. Its dual Thunderbolt and USB 3.0 interfaces offer flexibility, and the ability to use standalone modules or dock them for increased speed is a clear plus. The setup is ideal for streamlining workflows from set to post-production. However, it lacks a more intuitive power switch and requires downloading additional software for full functionality. While not the fastest on the market, its practicality and robust design make it a strong contender for those needing reliable data transfer and backup options.

G-Technology G-Dock ev with Thunderbolt Review | PCMag

pcmag.com

The G-Technology G-Dock ev with Thunderbolt is a solid choice for high-volume video or production environments. Its convenient hard drive cartridge system and dual connectivity options (SATA and USB 3.0) make it a versatile tool for improving studio workflows. While it's on the pricier side, its performance, especially in RAID 0 configuration, justifies the investment for those needing speed and efficiency. The pass-through Thunderbolt port and three-year warranty add to its appeal. However, the reliance on Apple's software RAID and easily losable SATA doors are minor drawbacks. A highly recommended option for studios, though general users might find better value elsewhere.

Review: G Dock ev with Thunderbolt | CreativePro Network

creativepro.com

The G-Dock ev with Thunderbolt impresses with its versatility and speed, offering both USB-3 and Thunderbolt connectivity, making it ideal for professionals needing quick data transfers. The device caters to field and base station work, providing flexibility for digital intake technicians with its 1TB drive inserts. However, while advertised speeds are high, real-world performance falls short due to protocol and physical limitations. Setting up a RAID array boosts speed but sacrifices data redundancy, posing a risk. Overall, it's a solid choice for those prioritizing speed over data safety.

Review: G-Tech G-Dock ev with Thunderbolt - Streaming Media Producer

streamingmedia.com

The G-DOCK ev with Thunderbolt impresses with its sleek design and dual-functionality, serving as both desktop and portable storage. The integration of Thunderbolt and USB 3 connectivity offers versatile, fast access, ideal for creative professionals. However, the non-retractable dust cover is a minor inconvenience, requiring careful handling to avoid loss. Overall, it's a stylish, high-performance storage solution, albeit with a few small quirks.

G-Technology G-DOCK ev with Thunderbolt Review - StorageReview.com

storagereview.com

The G-Dock ev with Thunderbolt offers a sleek, high-speed storage solution tailored for Mac users and digital media professionals. Its dual-bay design allows for rapid file transfers and flexible workflows, making it ideal for those frequently handling large files. The product impresses with its stylish aluminum build and effective cooling system, ensuring durability and efficiency. However, its limited two-bay capacity and the lack of distinct visual identifiers for each drive can lead to confusion during use. Overall, while not universally recommendable, it suits niche needs perfectly, excelling in environments where portability and speed are paramount.

Super Flexible, Convenient, and Fast external HD System for the Studio

This clever little device has been the best Hard Drive system I've ever owned. It accepts two G-Drives of any kind (1TB, 2TB, 512gbFlash) at a time in its stacked garages. The Dock connects to computer via Thunderbolt, and actually has two thunderbolt connections to utilize. The G-Drives can be inserted and removed super easily, then they can be taken on the go and connected with USB3.0 Cables. A bit expensive, but the speed and ease of use has made it worth while.
