MacBook Pro with M1 review | Tom's Guide

tomsguide.com

The Apple 13-inch MacBook Pro M1 delivers stellar performance and impressive battery life, outpacing many competitors. With a vibrant display and comfortable Magic Keyboard, it excels in productivity tasks and media consumption. However, the dated design and limited port selection can frustrate some users. While it remains a top choice for power users, the proximity in performance to the MacBook Air M1 raises questions about its value for average consumers. For serious tasks, the Pro’s advantage is clear, but the Air may suffice for most. A solid option, but not without its compromises.

Apple MacBook Pro 13” M1 Review- Why You Might Want To Pass

forbes.com

The Apple MacBook Pro 13” M1 dazzles with its impressive M1 processor, but the shine quickly fades when faced with compatibility issues and performance hiccups. Many users may struggle with app crashes and sluggishness, particularly with non-Apple software, as the Rosetta 2 translation isn't foolproof. Furthermore, the limited USB ports and lack of a touchscreen are glaring omissions for a "Pro" device. Battery life varies drastically based on usage, leading to disappointment for some users. While it may excel for those entrenched in the Apple ecosystem, the MacBook Pro M1 is not the universal solution Apple promises, making it wise to consider alternatives if you require broader software compatibility and connectivity.

Apple MacBook Pro with M1 review: flexing Arm - The Verge

theverge.com

The Apple 13-inch MacBook Pro M1 showcases impressive performance and stellar battery life, thanks to its efficient M1 chip and fan design. While it offers a slightly better display and sound than the Air, the Touch Bar and limited I/O ports detract from its overall utility. The webcam disappoints for a “pro” machine, and the RAM cap might frustrate power users. Ultimately, while the MacBook Pro is a strong contender, many may find the more affordable MacBook Air suits their needs just as well.

Apple MacBook Pro 13-inch (M1, 2020) | TechRadar

techradar.com

The Apple MacBook Pro 13-inch (M1, 2020) serves as a powerhouse in a familiar package, boasting exceptional performance and impressive battery life that outshines many competitors. Its M1 chip revolutionizes speed and efficiency, making it a dream for creatives tackling intensive tasks. However, the design feels dated and lacks the variety of ports professionals crave, which could be a dealbreaker for some. While it remains a top contender in its class, those seeking cutting-edge aesthetics or extensive connectivity options might want to explore alternatives. Overall, it's a solid investment for power users, albeit with reservations for those who prioritize design.

Apple MacBook Pro 13 2020 Laptop Review: The entry-level Pro also gets the M1 performance boost - NotebookCheck.net Reviews

notebookcheck.net

Despite the impressive performance boost from the M1 chip, the MacBook Pro 13 struggles to justify its higher price compared to the more affordable MacBook Air. Limitations like only two Thunderbolt ports, a mediocre 720p webcam, and slow Wi-Fi 6 transfer speeds hinder its appeal. While it excels in build quality and battery life, the Pro's advantages over the Air are minimal. Apple seems to have positioned this model as filler, lacking significant "Pro" features, making it hard to recommend over its sibling.

Apple MacBook Pro 13-Inch (M1, Late 2020) Review | PCMag

pcmag.com

The 13-inch MacBook Pro M1 dazzles with its exceptional speed, stunning Retina display, and impressive battery life, making it a powerhouse for creative professionals. However, its two USB-C ports and modest standard storage of 256GB may leave some users wanting more. The absence of a touchscreen might also disappoint those seeking versatility. Overall, while it remains a stellar ultraportable laptop, potential buyers should consider the MacBook Air for similar performance at a better value, unless they specifically need the Pro's features.

Reliable, fast and portable

Pretty happy with this M1. Runs DSP heavy VST's with ease. Some bugs using Amplitube, but Guitar Rig 6 is super well implemented and stable. Also there are no drivers whatsoever for any device you plug in, every operation is straight forward taken care of by opening Audio Midi Setup. For new players Macbook comes with Garageband, which is pretty incredible for a first DAW. Also, since it has the magic touchbar, there is this unique and free synth app called Samplr Touchbar, any user MUST try this app! Also I've seen some folks integrate it for various commands and customisable controls for various softwares.

Love my M1 MBP

Great as long as updates for software are kept up on by plug-in makers.

Definitely prefer the 13” for portability, plus it’s the only one with the touch bar any more.
