Sometimes, you want more than your average echo. You want a bit more texture, something to tease the ear of your audience and encourage them to go back and listen again. What exactly WAS that in the background? Was it supposed to be there?
At its heart, Glitchmachines' Hysteresis is a delay. However, this delay also adds a low pass filter, modulation, and a stutter. Put it in a return bus, adjust the width a little, and experiment. Your echos will sound like warped, mutated, corroded versions of themselves. And this plugin, like its sibling Fracture, is free!

Hystersis is a glitch delay plugin geared toward creating robotic artifacts and abstract musical malfunctions. It features a delay effect with stutter, lowpass filter and modulation effects thrown into the feedback signal path. You can process anything from drums and percussion to synth lines and sound effects. On top of being able to create incredibly wild signal mutations, it can also be used to generate classic delay effects.
Colyn confirms using the Glitchmachines Hysteresis plugin, as detailed in the article "My Toolbox: Colyn [Afterlife/Rose Avenue]" by Kane for Magnetic Magazine. Colyn describes purchasing the plugin on impulse and initially leaving it unused, but later rediscovering it to create "fascinating backdrops and intriguing ambient sounds," particularly effective in intro tracks and as a background element in other productions.
