Critic Reviews

Review: Nexus 3 from reFX | Audio Plugin Guy

audiopluginguy.com

Nexus 3 revitalizes the iconic reFX plugin with a user-friendly interface and enhanced sound design capabilities, making it a vital tool for modern producers. Its new features, such as the streamlined activation process and improved effects engine, breathe fresh life into dated presets. However, the hefty price tag for the starter pack and reliance on expansion packs for a fuller sound experience might deter newcomers. While seasoned users may find it worth the upgrade, those already satisfied with Nexus 2 could hold off until more expansions are available. Overall, it’s a versatile and powerful addition to any music producer's toolkit.

Poor customer service

I only gave 1 star as after being a loyal paying customer for 6 years spending just over one thousand pounds in total on ReFx Nexus 2 about 30 sound packs and the Nexus 3 upgrade, the owner blocked me from upgrading to Nexus 4 out of spite because I complained once in a year as the plugin was not working as expected, he was so rude and insulting and completely failed to address the issue and the issue choosing to make personal comments and accuse me if being the 0.1% of unhappy customers. Actually I'm not the only one who had a negative experience with Michael Hartman who is extremely poorly reviewed and as such customers need to be warned that they might get completely ripped off and insulted with thier software maliciously blocked from upgrades and support if they bother to report an issue with the software or portal ReFX has a scire if 1.7 on trustpilot so clearly I am not the 0.1% and I am still waiting for a sincere apology from the owner of ReFX who has held my upgrades and support to ransom and severely downgraded my purchase without providing the promised refund which us both unlawful and just plain awful, be warned: https://uk.trustpilot.com/review/refx.com

Professional and easy to use.

Very diverse with a huge selection all sorted in a easy to use way with ready-to-go presets with ability to adjust using the envelopes.

Preferred Settings + Usage:

PN Playing Piano in Heaven: perfect for a spacey sound with the ability to change between a powerful piano and smooth atmospheric pads.

lukeepic

superb

Nexus is very easy to use and has all the famous sounds. It´s a superb software synthesizer and I´m lovin´it.

hexcode

Good VST.

It comes with a lot of presets. Unfortunatly you are not able to edit these presets like in Omnisphere 2. You also have to buy presets in packs.

falcosdeejay

Very good and way faster than the second gen

Finally you don't need to use the USB stick to unlock it and is way faster than before

stargatemax

A lot better library management

But the same sound, sometimes makes me feel a bit bored now. :O

jimmarchi1

because there's nothing more soul destroying than paging through the sound bank of a rompler

stargatemax

It's a great bread and butter instrument, very easy to load and start with. But there are very few great sounds today. I find it's greatly lacking real customizabilty, although some important settings are easy to access (to change the master tuning from 440 to 432, etc.). It felt quite awesome in 2007 when I got the version 1.4, and still felt great quite a few years later.

Now it feels like Asian cars compared to Mercedes or Cadillac. :O Its super easy and quick workflow keeps me using it as my "start-composing-with-it" virtual instrument when I quickly need to "write down" an idea that comes into my head.
