Owner Insights

We analyzed real musician discussions from forums and Reddit to find what players love, question, and tweak about You Rock Guitar Midi Controller.

Features and functionality

  • The You Rock Guitar is noted for its narrow, highly sensitive buttons on the fretboard, simulating string feel without actual strings.

    Source
  • The YRG-1000 processes pitch detection via hardware before sending MIDI notes, potentially adding latency but typically minimal compared to PC processing.

    Source
  • The YRG can be used in non-pro mode with an adapter for consoles, providing flexibility for different gaming and learning settings.

    Source
  • The YRG requires a MIDI cable for pro guitar mode, as the USB wireless adapter is only useful for 5 button mode, which is not ideal for pro use.

    Source

User experience

  • Owners report the YRG tracks MIDI signals quickly and integrates well with Garage Band, even viable for composing on-the-go, such as on a train.

    Source
  • A user described the YRG-1000 as more of a toy than a professional tool, suggesting it may not meet the needs of serious musicians.

    Source

Use cases and applications

  • The YRG is praised for its portability and ease of use for jamming, especially for guitarists who prefer not to use a keyboard.

    Source
  • The You Rock Guitar is noted for its tap mode, making it a fun learning tool by reducing fretting errors.

    Source

Comparisons

  • Some users find the YRG's MIDI tracking faster and more accurate for lower notes compared to Roland and Axon models, which can be muddy on chords.

    Source
  • Some users prefer the Fishman Triple Play for its wireless capabilities and visual editor, viewing it as a smoother, more accurate alternative to the YRG-1000.

    Source
  • Unlike the Mustang, the YRG offers left-handed playability with MIDI output, making it a rare option for lefty guitarists.

    Source

Mods and upgrades

  • Using a regular capo on the YRG can address muting issues, offering a simple modification for better performance.

    Source

Value and pricing

  • At around $200, the YRG is considered a cost-effective MIDI controller, especially for those who cannot afford more expensive gear like the Roland GR series.

    Source

Software and compatibility

  • Latency issues with the YRG-1000 are influenced by the user's PC, soundcard, and audio interface, highlighting the importance of a robust setup for optimal performance.

    Source
  • Difficulty arises when using the YRG with Rock Band 3 in lefty mode due to conflicting left/right settings between the guitar and game.

Useful on recording, but not for playing live

Looks like guitar and named after, but for me, as guitarist, it is more like keys. I never use "strings" - it's almost impossible to play YRG like guitar. Tapping only. Anyway, YRG is very useful as something between keys and guitar, for example, to quickly make some pads doubling the part of rhythm-guitar or play some solo, even percussion.

I'd prefer YRG to be more like standart midi-controller - a box of plastic standing firm on a table, like keys of lapsteel without string, but for it's price YRG good enought even like this.

Affordable midi controller that you can play as if it were a guitar!

I discovered this thing after spotting the prototype on Kickstarter. If you need a midi controller but can't really play the keys or can't be bothered learning but are able to play guitar, this is your answer. I actually rather the 'tap' function , which allows me to play more complex chords and a cool lead lines. Highly recommend!

Finally i can synthesize with the instrument I have played for most my life rather than bumbling around to figure it out on the keys
