Here we see Jimmy Page hold a Roland G808 Synthesizer guitar.
According to the Jimmy Page Facebook Page, he used it to record the soundtrack to the 1982 movie "Death Wish II", directed by Michael Winner.
Around July 1981, I was contacted by director Michael Winner to view a rough cut of his latest film, Death Wish II; the second film in what was to become a popular series of cult thrillers. When I viewed this film the required music sections had been identified; it was ninety minutes long and would need forty-five minutes of music, from pieces barely a few seconds in length through to the longest piece; a chase section lasting five minutes and fifty seconds. Michael asked me if I would like to compose the soundtrack. At this time I had my own studio, The Sol, and saw this as being an exciting challenge.
Although the songs with vocals were only set to appear in the film for a matter of seconds, I had recorded full versions of them anyway. It was just as well I did, a three quarters of the way through this writing, recording and transfer process, it was put to me that the record label, Atlantic, wanted an album. So now there was a multitude of sonic vignettes in mono for the film and stereo album for Atlantic, which is how I ended up recording my first soundtrack and soundtrack album. The guitar in the photo was the most advanced for its time and I used it extensively on those sessions.

Renowned for his unique guitar work with King Crimson since 1969, Robert Fripp is pictured using a Roland G-808 Guitar Synthesizer, as seen in a user-uploaded photo on Rolling Stone.
In a user-uploaded photo on BlogSpot, Adrian Belew is seen playing a Roland G-808 Guitar Synthesizer alongside Robert Fripp, who is also using a G-808.
In the YouTube video titled "Geordie Greep Plays Synth Guitar Jam Session with American Bassist - Windmill Brixton - 09/12/25," Geordie Greep is seen playing the Roland G-808 Guitar Synthesizer, connected to its matching synth module, during the latter part of the jam session, as documented by Amy Archives.
Shawn can be seen here playing a G-808 while covering Allan Holdsworth's "Fred"
As can be heard on the track "Over the Border", Paul used a Roland G-808 Guitar, controlling a GR-300 synthesizer, for that distinctive saw wave, layered with hexaphonic distortion. He didn't use this on many songs though. For those wanting to truly match his sound, on this song, this unit is essential.
