Jimmy was seen with this controller only once in this advert for Roland G-707. This is believed to have been used on soundtrack recordings for "Death Wish II".
In a YouTube video titled "Santana - The Healer/Saja Live In Berlin 1987" by EpicConcerts, Carlos Santana is seen playing the Roland G-707 synth guitar at 1:55 during a performance of The Healer. This concert took place on April 6, 1987, at the Palast der Republik in East Berlin, and was broadcast by DDR2.
Beck can be seen in this picture play- uh... I mean... Dueling with a Roland G-707 Synth Guitar. Other members in his band can sometimes be seen using this guitar as well.
The source picture clearly shows Ace with the synth guitar sometime during the 1980s.
"I was brought to Roland Corporation and in that meeting they've brought out the GR-707. I refused to leave the office without taking it and bringing it back to the States with me. The deal I struck was that we would use it in the next video which was Flesh for Fantasy. And I still get e-mail and facebook questions: "What was that guitar for Flesh for Fantasy?" I'm proud to say that I toured the entire Rebel Yell tour which was ten months long, with one of GR-707 and the floor unit. I still have it, and I have it because it is a bit of history to me. There's not many instruments that I held on to that long but that really meant something to me, to be the first in the Unites States with that ( Roland GR-707) instrument and to maybe help promote guitar synthesizers. I've always been a big synth fan."
"I’ve got a silver Roland G-707 guitar synth with an added Kahler. It makes some fantastic sounds, but playing it live was a nightmare. You had to wind in some direct guitar sound and you had to develop a technique to avoid it glitching which isn’t easy. You could say it was really innovative at the time, and we were initially criticized for using it... then everybody started playing them! I suppose we were searching for a new direction, trying to break new ground - it's the kind of thing that makes guitar life interesting though and a challenge! Nowadays, on Nostradamus I used a Godin LGXT for the synth guitar work. Things have moved on quite a bit."
Luis Alberto Spinetta used the Roland G-707 during the presentation of "Madre en años luz" at Luna Park on May 10, 1985. He also played this guitar at other performances, such as the show in Barrancas de Belgrano in January 1986, as evidenced by an image available on Equipboard.
