  • Offers a variety of reverb types with rich realism

  • Plate and hall reverb settings notable for specific genres

CONS

  • Takes time to dial in desired settings

  • Not as clean or powerful compared to other options

Owner Insights

We analyzed real musician discussions from forums and Reddit to find what players love, question, and tweak about DigiTech X-Series DigiVerb.

Features and functionality

  • The reverse reverb setting on the DigiVerb can be adjusted to include some dry signal, unlike some other pedals which only offer a full wet option.

    Source
  • The Digiverb’s spring reverb is characterized by an erratic drip, which is more pronounced than the Boss RV6, offering a unique but less realistic sound.

    Source
  • Utilizing both stereo outputs allows for splitting effects, such as using a fuzz on one output/amp and an EQ or compressor on the other, providing a blend of clean and dirty tones.

    Source

User experience

  • Users have noted a noticeable volume drop when increasing the reverse reverb level, affecting the overall output.

    Source
  • The tone knob is particularly useful for adjusting reverb against different types of gain, such as turning it down to smooth out fuzz.

    Source
  • It's noted that the Spring mode initially underwhelms but shines when used with more subtle settings.

    Source
  • Some owners have managed temporary fixes for non-responsive switches by applying forceful stomping, although this is not a long-term solution.

    Source
  • A recurring problem is the pedal's failure to pass signal, even when the LED indicates it's on, suggesting potential internal connection issues.

    Source

Use cases and applications

  • The Church mode excels when used 100% wet in pre-dirt setups, enhancing shoegaze tones with its rich early reflections and soft trails.

    Source
  • The gated setting, when used all wet with mid to heavy decay and paired with a fuzz or blues driver, can create a compelling shoegaze tone.

    Source

Comparisons

  • While not equipped with Lexicon algorithms like the RV-7, the Digiverb’s reverse reverb remains more versatile due to its blend control.

    Source
  • The Church mode creates ambient swells that are described as not fully ambient space traveler-level, but close enough for rich, washy textures.

    Source

Setup and maintenance

  • Some users address the volume drop in full wet mode by using an EQ, compressor, or distortion/fuzz to enhance the overall signal character.

    Source
  • A common issue with the DigiVerb is the switch failing; users suggest replacing it with a more robust switch, though it's challenging due to size differences.

The Sultan of Sproing

Digitech’s X-Series… were we ever so young?

The Hardwire RV-7 gets shoegaze-taxed pretty hard these days, BUT, bang for your buck? I actually prefer the Digiverb’s more lo-fi, digital-grit aesthetic countenance…. I see it as a feature, not a bug. There’s nothing else quite like this. The super pristine ring of a Strymon Big Sky, Meris Mercury 7, or Source Audio Ventris the Digiverb is most certainly NOT. But it’s gnarly stuff! Solid state or tube, this thing just does not care.

And, yeah, let’s address the dancing elephant in the room: the infamous volume drop once you start dialling in the ‘Reverse’ reverb past 12 o’clock… but that’s just the nature of the beast with a blend/level knob that kills your dry signal the more your dime it. Eh. Stick a compressor or boost in front, tweak the EQ to taste, and enter a new, exaggerated, swooshy, spaced-out nether region of your own device. In stereo!

The ‘Gated’ reverb here…. it’s deeper than you might think… in fact, I’d go so far as to say this is my favourite ‘Gated’ reverb sound in pedal form ever. Simply irreplaceable in my rig. The decay knob — mega sensitive, but it’s got that extra gear, get it justttt right and there’s a second and even third act to this thing (for ears that are willing to hear…) Unlike the RV-7’s half-wet fixed mix, we’re talking full on “I Need No Trust” – My Bloody Valentine vibes.

100% Wet ‘Church’ reverb before your favourite dirt pedal? Best of breed.

Not very good

Although has some cool features the Digiverb sounds very electronic and grimy. When bending a string the sound gets very distorted similar to reverb sound but taken to an extreme. Paired with some delay the Digiverb is tolerable but otherwise is a waste of money.

Good

works well. does take a while to dial in though. once you get it set up for what you want our golden.

jimmarchi1

no no no

I bought this before the boss to get a hall sound. it sounded very poor to me so I got the rv2 which is somewhat more tolerable. I eventually just used a quadraverb or spx90 for hall sound on guitar back then. Much better.

It'll Do

Does a nice job, mostly. I like the plate reverb settings for that early rockabilly slap-back sound, and hall settings for most other things.

Somewhat Lacking

Controls are somewhat lacking, the sound is ok i guess

divuar_lacroix

Not bad nor good

A generic reverb pedal. Actually it does what it's meant to, but I guess I will replace this one for Supernatural by Digitech very soon. Digiverb lacks 'huge' tones, which I need. Good for solos and traditional tone builds though.

lewistaylor16

Good pedal

This is a really good pedal, you can make really cool sounds and it allows you to be creative

B

its ok

It ok, and has some nice features, but is not as clean or powerful as many others ive tried. honestly thinking of trading it in.
