I love this mouse as it is a lot more ergonomic than my apple magic mouse. The one thing that I really miss about the magic mouse is the scroll wheel functionality of swiping your finger in the direction you want to go. If apple made a more ergonomic magic mouse I would switch back very quickly. Sometimes even when I mix I use the magic mouse as it is quicker for a big project but overall this is my mouse of choice.
I got this keyboard simply because I was using a newer mac keyboard and the buttons just felt very small. I really like how this lights up in the dark as I do most of my work at night with the lights off. For mac, I had to switch the keyboard controls for cmnd and option(alt) in the keyboard preferences to keep familiarity between my old mac keyboard and new one. Overall, this keyboard took a few days to get use to, but it was incredibly comfortable and I find because it is more grooved that my muscle memory conforms to it better.
My good guitarist friend of mine, Zach, got me started on these picks when I first picked up guitar. Every other pick feels wrong in my hand compared to this pick. I am no professional guitarist, but I think I certainly benefited from using and learning with this pick.
This is a UPS (Unified Power System) and what a UPS does, is essentially generate a giant back up battery if your studio loses power. This is very important if you have a lot of money invested in hardware as you dont want anything to happen to your tubes or any parts of your hardware if the electricity goes out and surges your systems. This UPS gives me around an hour to turn off all my gear in my studio (I have two, so my power conditioners are split between the two UPS I have and I plug all my gear into the power conditioners) when my power goes out I usually turn off all my gear in a minute or two, but this thing is an added insurance policy.
This is an incredible machine. I use it a lot to layer strong snares and kicks I already have in my music.
DSI never does anything wrong. The sounds I can get out of this thing are incredible. Really awesome to use the sounds out of this thing under some more organic and real percussion. The distortion and compression out of this thing is as warm as can be.
Honestly, I really dont like the build on this synth. I dont use it that much however I bring it to my friends a lot who jams guitar and Ill lay down some abstract bass lines haha.
This thing has a unique digital sound that is easily identified. I know this is a digital synth, but to me it has a very distinct character. The versatility of the patch programming in this synth is amazing. I love how the keyboard is setup and the touch screen workflow. It makes for really fast patch building. This is an incredible synth for Pop and R&B on the producer side of things.
I use a lot of strings and pianos from this synth. However, since switching to logic from ableton I find myself using this guy a lot less as Logic has incredible pianos and strings. My favorite piano VST out of all piano vsts is actually logics Bosendorf piano. However, this synth has a lot of strings and guitar sounds that I can only find on this synth.
I have a system 45. It is the first modular synthesizer that I have ever purchased and like the ms-20 mini it has taught me a lot about sound design. I have actually been able to create some of my fattest leads with this thing. I feel like I try to use modular synths to create a lot more mainstream of sounds than people who usually use modular. However, it should be stated this thing is a tool for EDM producers all over. You can make abstract tech house sounds, deep basses for deep house, and trap and electro house leads. However, I think some days this thing makes better sound than other days with the exact same patching, it really confuses me, but it has a mind and sound of its own. I love what pittsburgh modular is doing with their newer modules too!
This is the synth that made me realize to focus on the simplicities of sound design. I learned a lot about synthesis using this synth, maybe more than any other synth as Id bring it down stairs from the studio when I would take a break to watch tv and continue my learning with this synth. This little guy can make just as phat sounds as my voyager however with a complete different taste and color. It is also really easy to make sound fx such as lazer bleeps and bloops. This is really all I could make when I first got the thing as I said, it taught me a lot about sound design.
This is my favorite polyphonic synth in my studio. It is the only analog polyphonic synth in my studio so it doesn't have much competition (of course it crushes my digitals). I use this thing to create incredibly abstract sounds as well as polyphonic leads and basses.
A hardware vocoder can be a very fun and creative way to get ideas out as a non singer and still include vocals in your song. Its a very transformative vocoder. I will always keep this thing close by.
Love love love this synth. I still love my voyager more tbh even though this thing can get a lot different of sounds than my voyager. It is a very impressive build for a synthesizer. I use the Audio input into this thing every once and a while as well. (this is something that is a lot easier with two musicians in the studio). I really hope to see a polyphonic moog in the future that borrows a lot of ideas from this guy.
The software clockworks that runs with this MOTU unit has been updated for yosemite however it is somewhat buggy for some things. However, for the traditional task of using it to sync and control you gear for your DAW it does the job.
Incredible for sound design. Just like the Lowpass filter where I use the envelope amount, I do a similar thing with the freq box. I really like sticking this on a bus for drums to create a resonant spacing and turn the mix down very low. This is an incredibly creative piece of gear that both the creative musician and skilled engineer need to have in their arsenal.
I don't use this as much as I wish TBH. I use it mostly in extended fx chains where I am already using on of my other mooger foogers. I hardly ever use this thing by itself. I have started to use it on bus's however to give a nice LFO modulation to things like reverbs and such when Im trying to be creative.
I love the envelope amount on this guy as it creates a really cool modulation tool. This is my go to filter for analog warmth lowpass. as it is racked up on my desk. I route some sounds to my voyagers filter still however, it really depends on what Im going for to decide what filter to use. This is an incredibly creative pedal/rack unit.
