Owner Insights

We analyzed real musician discussions from forums and Reddit to find what players love, question, and tweak about Moog Moogerfooger Low-Pass Filter.

Features and functionality

  • The MF-101 excels in CV inputs/outputs, enabling it to handle oscillator duties and act as a primitive VCA.

    Source
  • Large knobs and rackable form factor are praised for ease of use and on-the-fly adjustments.

    Source
  • When experimenting with signal chains, placing the Moog Lowpass after overdrive pedals can enhance envelope reaction due to increased gain levels.

    Source

Comparisons

  • The Aion Modular 904A, a Moog Modular 904-A replica, is noted for superior sound quality over Moog’s own Voyager filter.

    Source
  • Alternatives like the Vongon Paragraphs, Oto Biscuit, and Kinotone Sparks offer similar filter experiences with drive capabilities.

    Source

Use cases and applications

  • The MF-101 is deeper than typical low-pass filters, offering more versatility in sound shaping.

    Source
  • While popular with guitars, these pedals are often favored for use with synthesizers like the Moog Sub Phatty, offering greater flexibility and unique sound characteristics.

    Source

    Source
  • Using a Strat in the bridge pickup position enhances the input gain's interaction with the Moog, achieving a brighter, snappier tone akin to Tom Misch's sound.

    Source

Value and pricing

  • Original Moogerfoogers are expected to retain their value, even with potential Behringer clones, due to their status as original Moog units.

    Source

Build quality

  • The original Moogerfooger MF-101 from the late 1990s was built under Big Briar Inc. and may feature Bob Moog’s signature instead of the Moog logo.

    Source

Setup and maintenance

  • To avoid hiss or unwanted gain, it's recommended to place the MF-101 in a true bypass loop, ensuring cleaner signal paths and enhanced sound quality.

    Source
  • The Moog Moogerfooger's input gain knob affects the envelope's snap and is active even when bypassed, potentially adding a sweet overdrive when the signal light turns red.

    Source

User experience

  • Owners report the Moog Lowpass filter's onboard drive is substantial enough, reducing the necessity for additional drive pedals compared to other wah setups.

    Source
  • Despite setting knobs identically, variations between individual Moog Lowpass units can occur, suggesting the need to adjust settings by ear for consistent sound.

I love the envelope amount on this guy as it creates a really cool modulation tool.

I love the envelope amount on this guy as it creates a really cool modulation tool. This is my go to filter for analog warmth lowpass. as it is racked up on my desk. I route some sounds to my voyagers filter still however, it really depends on what Im going for to decide what filter to use. This is an incredibly creative pedal/rack unit.
