While we´re on the subject of guitars…this beautiful American Fender Stratocaster Sunburst of mine was purchased especially for the Midnight Choir 2016 tour…For some songs I needed a Strat with a bit more flexible action and a bit more updated sound than my ´57…particularly with songs such as "October 8", "Dear Friend", and "Electric Rain" in mind…she´s a gorgeous lady… a dream to play…could´t live without her, really…also note that I´m playing this one without the classic vibe tremolo arm…Andrew Hardin who produced The Loma Ranch Sessions for Midnight Choir back in ´94 (to be reissued in an updated Vinyl Deluxe version later next month) also trades his licks like this…easier to stay in-tune that way!

More guitars…My Golden ´57 Fender Stratocaster (as pictured) has been with Midnight Choir since the very start…it featured on the track Gypsy Rider on the first album…I also used it exclusively on the 2016 Tour for the song Don´t Turn Out The Light….

Talkin' guitars again: Me and my black Gibson 335 captured by photographer Stefan Vollstädt somewhere on tour in Germany circa ' 08. This photo was later used for the Transfigured Night-single "Voice of Burden". A marvelous track, by the way. I originally purchased the guitar while visiting The Walkabouts in Seattle, USA. I was then playing on their album "Acetylene". When I got back home, I immediately fired it up, which can be heard to great effect on the song "Wintersong" (from my solo-album "Volume 3"). This is without question the loudest guitar I got, and I pulled it out for the hard-rocking "Snow In Berlin" on the Midnight Choir 2016 Tour. She´s a black beauty indeed, and I can´t wait to use her again. Come see us when Midnight Choir returns live on stage in 2017! Photo: Stefan Vollstädt

…and by the way, that shimmering guitar sound…that´s from a Rickenbacker 330 12-string… I borrowed it for the Loma Ranch Sessions…one of the sessions musicians brought it along..Brian Wood, I think..and we used it on "Talk to Me"… I finally decided it was the right time to get one…A thing of beauty! Can´t wait to use it!!!

Alright - here we go - Snow in Berlin. There are two guitars, two channels: left channel; the big fat riff that sounds a bit like Neil Young , that´s me - I was playing a White Hollow Body Yamaha Guitar at the time (the guitar is no longer with me, nor the drummer that owned it I´m afraid…). I ´m playing it through a Fender Twin Reverb. It´s a pretty loud set-up. I´m using a tube-screamer pedal. I´m pushing it a bit! The trick tough is to play it soft, you know, do not hit the guitar strings too hard. Continue to interact with the feedback coming out of the amp.
