Jacob Collier's Microphones
In the description of Collier's cover of Close to You by The Carpenters, he says that two of these microphones were used to record the song. During the recording for In My Room, these were used as the main instrument microphones. They could be seen as drum overheads, guitar, and percussion microphones in various YouTube videos before 2017. Since 2017, when Ben Bloomberg outfitted his room with a bunch of recording equipment, these have wandered around the room a ton. They could be seen above the piano, as a vocal mic by the piano, but most recently (as of 2020), his pair (or possibly two pairs) of 414s are used on snare.
This microphone can be seen in the upper right hand corner by Jacob's head, throughout the live stream. He's used it since before In My Room, and transitioned to using his modified U87Ai when he got that in early 2018. The microphone has since been seen as his vocal microphone at the piano. After the power supply got fried, he switched to the Neumann for one performance and the AEA ribbon ever since.
In the description of Collier's cover of Close to You by The Carpenters, he says that this "trusty" microphone was used to record the song.
He mentions this is his new main microphone towards the beginning.
Seen all the way through the video as the vocal microphone for the lead Jacob. Typically positioned as a vocal microphone for the Wurlitzer along the wall. It was added to the room by October 2019, as it is visible in the recordings of James Copus laying down some trumpet tracks.
In the YouTube video "Hide and Seek - Jacob Collier [Live at House]," Jacob Collier uses a Shure SM7B microphone.
Jacob uses a pair of these to record stereo percussion and refers to them as his "trusty Mojaves" in several livestreams. They're seen in the background throughout this video & used at 1:19:15 and 1:23:25.
In a YouTube video titled "Jacob Collier and Grace Design," Jacob Collier's studio setup features the Avedis Audio R52. This two-space 500 series power supply with link mode is integrated into a 19″ 1U rack-mount, highlighting its role in his recording environment.
He started using it in 2020 for vocals when playing piano. It replaced the AKG C12VR after its power supply broke. Seen across multiple live streams and described by him as "a beautiful ribbon mic by AEA" and as "really special."
Used by him since 2017, mainly to record vocals. Basically visible in every single livestream he's done from his music room! From what we know about the size of his monitor & keyboard, this seems to be the XL version of the arm.

The RE20 can be seen micing up the amplifier in the background throughout the video. Seen most clearly at 53:28.
Starting around 22:05, the Heil PR 48 is shown on the Surdu.
As seen in this video and written instagram post
In a tweet by Jacob Collier during his "Djesse Listening Party" held on the 6th of December 2020, he states how the original arrangement of 'Sky Above' from "Djesse Vol. 2" was recorded in a room in NYC during Autumn 2018.
Used as the main piano microphone setup, most likely since 2017, when Ben Bloomberg outfitted the room with a bunch of new gear. Shown in an Instagram live Q&A session. He uses this in combination with a Yamahico pickup for recording piano and livestreams. He shows his microphone setup starting at 20:54.
As seen on the image above. Replacing the Neumann WS87, this has been the windscreen on his main vocal microphone for most of Djesse Vol. 2, as well as all of Vol. 3 - it's unlikely he'll replace it soon. The W414X came in the box with his AKG C414 XLII, which he got around 2015 and still uses. It's one of the only rectangular grey windscreens available. Using a foam windscreen instead of a circular pop-filter is uncommon, as it doesn't prevent plosives from overloading the microphone nearly as much, and most of them attenuate the high-end. Collier typically places his microphone slightly to the right of his mouth, so plosives wouldn't be a big problem without the windscreen.
Seen around 22:01 on the toms. Described as "fairly cheap AKG mics."
As seen in the video "Jacob Collier Talks About Kii THREE Speakers" by Kii Audio on YouTube, this was the pop-screen he used with the AKG C12VR, at least since the room was remodeled in 2017. When he got the Klaus Heyne-modified U87AI, he started using a Neumann-branded windshield instead of a pop-filter like this and later used this Stedman filter at the piano, first for the U87AI, then later for the AEA KU5A ribbon microphone, having described the latter as being particularly sensitive to sibilance and plosives. It's likely that he stopped using a large round pop-filter because it obstructed his view of the computer monitor, later opting to position the microphone off-axis and using a thin windshield for spit protection.
Seen supporting his Mojave microphones. Probably used since 2017, when Ben Bloomberg outfitted his room with a whole bunch of new recording gear. This can only be the Keepdrum STB01 - a fairly obscure stereo bar - since it's the only stereo bar available with hexagonal screws like this one has that also has fixed microphone positions. He shows his microphone setup starting at 20:54.
As seen throughout the video holding the AKG C414 on the snare.
In a tweet, Jacob Collier mentions recording with Lianne La Havas in his music room, suggesting the use of a Neumann WS87 windscreen during vocal sessions.
In this logic session breakdown, the Coles 4038 can be seen used as an overhead on his drum kit.
