John can be seen playing the guitar during this performance of 'Shot by Both Sides' with Magazine on the Belgian TV series Follies in 1979.
In the first paragraph on this page of this interview, John McGeoch says, "After that I shopped around for a vintage Strat and checked out some new ones and of all of them I preferred the Squier '57 Strat."

John's first electric guitar was an Aria 1532T (but sold under the brand name Commodore). You can see him play it on this photo from an early concert with Magazine.
"They've changed the design over the years -- it's about 3/4" thicker, three times as heavy, and the sound if anything is a little thinner [referring to his original '77 model]. These newer, lighter ones are a little warmer sounding."

In the video for "Public Image Ltd - Seattle," John McGeoch is seen using a Jackson Flying V Randy Rhoads guitar throughout the performance.
