“From the first time I saved my money as a teen to buy a Jackson to the day they released my first sig model Kelly, there was always an aura of greatness about the brand and the instruments,” said Friedman. “Even more important than that, the people at the company have always gone way beyond the call of duty to help me pursue my musical goals—even when I was not officially working with the company. That speaks volumes to me. My longstanding relationship with Jackson gave birth to my new sig model, which was a massive project for both of us. It’s a guitar that can hang with the most aggressive playing possible, as well as allows tender interpretations of melodies, two major elements of my music. Oh, and it looks badass, too.”

In a Guitar World lesson posted on YouTube on April 25th of 2014 Marty Friedman is seen throughout the whole video using his PRS Signature SE guitar with characteristics that include star inlays and on the head stock a logo that says SE Marty Friedman.

"It was kind of a rare guitar, even back then. But it was by far my favorite. I searched and searched for one, but never could find one. Is it any wonder that my first sig model was a black explorer? One of my techs in the 90`s, Michael Kaye was always buying and selling guitars, and he was aware that I wanted a Hamer Explorer if he could ever find one. One day he found this one and I bought it immediately"

Marty Friedman owns an Ibanez Artist AR305AV, as confirmed by a 1981 Ibanez catalog image. During a clinic in Jakarta, a teenage fan mentioned that Friedman signed his guitar and described its 1984 model as "old school," highlighting Friedman's connection to the Ibanez Artist series.

According to Jackson's site, Marty Friedman uses the Jackson Pro Series Signature Marty Friedman MF-1 (Purple Mirror).

Marty uses a Carvin V220 in his "Exotic Metal Guitar" video lesson.
