Mary Timony's Guitars

Mary Timony is seen in this picture playing a Fender Jazzmaster.

This quote from a The Quietus interview also states that the guitar is from 1965: "Mary Timony's been known to solo her guitar above her head from time to time, but you won't see windmilling anytime soon. "Just the thought of it makes me laugh a bit," she says, gesturing toward her beloved go-to guitar, a 65 Fender Jazzmaster, that balances precariously against a chair in her living room. Understated – and perhaps underrated – though she may be, Timony has enjoyed an enduring, gimmick-free career that has become increasingly rare for even the most uncompromising indie artists."

" I’m really focusing on getting some cool guitar tones, and I just also got a new Les Paul Special that I’m stoked about. I haven’t ever owned a guitar with p-90s, I’ve played with single-coil pickups forever, so it’s nice to be able to be growly and loud! "

If Rips was defined by Timony’s P-90-loaded Les Paul Special, then It’s Real is a more crowded affair. Wright’s SG and Flying V were regularly in the mix, while Timony reached back into her past and dug out a 1989 PRS Standard 24 that she picked up while studying jazz guitar in college.

"It's made by Saul Koll. He's a builder in Portland, Oregon, and he is awesome.

I'm super into this thing. It's got a Mastery bridge, which I really like. These are TV Jones pickups, humbuckers. And the body is chambered; it's really light actually.

It plays really, really easily. It sounds like the best guitar I've ever had. I just like it a lot."
