Matt Pike
Matt Pike's Amplifiers
In the 1993 live performance of "Holy Mountain" in Germany, as shown on the StonerRockChannel YouTube video, Matt Pike used a Green Matamp. These amplifiers were custom-made for Matt and Al Cisneros during the recording of "Jerusalem" or "Dopesmoker," funded by an advance from their record label. However, the reasons for their discontinued use remain unknown.
"Interviewer: I know that live you’ve used the Frank Zappa trick of close-miking either a small Pignose or Orange Micro Terror in an iso cab and blending that with your larger heads. Is that something you do in the studio, too? Matt Pike: Oh yeah, it’s all over the Sleep record. When you hear the chainsaw parts with tons of sustain [laughs]—that’s when I’m running three Pignoses, daisy-chained, with a Soldano G.T.O. driving the front of them all. It fucking rules!".
During the 2016 tour, Matt Pike utilized an Orange Micro Dark amplifier head to project the guitar sound through the venue's PA system, as documented in an image on Imgur.
At 1:13, Pike says he uses 2 Dual Dark Oranges. He notes that they are a higher gain, metal amp.
In the provided photo, Matt Pike can be seen using multiple Orange Rockerverb 50 Mk III Heads, identifiable by their distinct control layout featuring volume, treble, bass, and mid controls. The amplifiers are positioned on the left, with three standing upright and one lying on its side.
"Also for Sleep’s The Sciences, I fired up my 1968 Laney “Supergroup” LA60BL that was modded by Bryan Sours of Sour Sound in Portland. It’s only 50 watts, but whatever he did to that old head, it now roars like an angry god. I just plugged straight in, dimed it, and that head just screams Master of Reality."

At 1:11, Matt shows off the very first Soldano SLO-100 ever made, nicknamed "Mr. Science". Mike Soldano lent it to Matt to record Death Is This Communion.
At 1:40, Matt's Soldano SP-77 preamp can be seen plugged into a Carvin FET 401 Power Amp. He used this setup during the Surrounded By Thieves era in conjunction with the SP-77.

Matt Pike, known for his current use of Orange amps and cabinets, previously used the Marshall MX412A - 240W 4x12" Angled Extension Cabinet. This is evident from the 2015 Southwest Terror Fest performance by SLEEP, captured by Max Volume Silence on YouTube.

In this video, you can see Matt's Soldano SP-77 preamp. He would plug this directly into the front of a Green Matamp GT120 which would often cause problems with the head. He used this setup with the GT120 and later with a proper rack power amp on the first two High On Fire albums before acquiring a proper SLO-100 during the Blessed Black Wings era.
In this video, Matt can be seen playing a Dual Rec alongside a JCM 2000 and an Orange head.
