The single most reliable piece of equipment I've ever owned

I've has one of these since late 1996 and it has never let me down, even on the two occasions where technical faults have arisen this amp has powered through to the end of the gig.

I'll start by saying I'm probably not using this amp to it's full potential; live I usually run a pedal board in to the low gain input and use it as a loud, clean platform for whatever effects are on my board that day - and it handles everything beautifully - with other UK made amps (Marshall, I'm looking at you) I've noticed a lack of low end when used this way and that results in some drive pedals sounding harsh or brittle - not this one - it's natural clean tone is an excellent platform for whatever you feel like plugging in with plenty of clarity and none of the harshness.

In the studio I've run the front end harder and got some great overdrive tones from it too - if that's how you like to work the onboard effects loop (series or parallel) is a great extra, allowing time based effects to sit post tone.

I can't speak highly enough about this amp - in the years I've had mine it's had 2 major meltdowns - usually due to old valves (tubes) wearing out giving up - this says more about my maintenance schedule than it does about the build quality - even the repair tech I use is impressed at how well it's put together.

its a JCM800 with the exception of the boost, fx loop and the low gain input... a JCM800 bypasses a gain stage on the low gain input, the one that's biased weird to distort, giving you more or less an anemic superlead topology. but its out of phase with hgh gain input because eliminating a tube stage eliminates a stage of 180 degree phase shift. So laney padded down the low input vintage fender style and it gave the clean input a much different sound for a couple reasons having to do with the way that extra gain stage is biased and the support circuitry around that triode that's shaping the bass and treble response ;-)

jimmarchi1

its a 50 but a bit louder

Unlike 50 and 100 watt 800s (the amp laney almost completely ripped off for the GH series) where the 50 sounds discernably sweeter (generally true of non master heads though more dependent on your taste) the GH100L sounds just like the 50L to me. See my review of the 50. These are excellent rock amps.
