According to an article by Guitar World, MJ Lenderman utilized a Gibson Firebrand "The SG" from 1979 during performances at Chicago’s Lincoln Hall. The article states, "For the majority of the songs, captured at the Lodge Room in L.A., Lenderman played a Fender Jazzmaster through Vox AC15 and Fender Deluxe combo amps, while the remainder of the tracks, from Chicago’s Lincoln Hall, saw him using his ’79 Gibson Firebrand SG and a Fender Blues Deluxe combo."

In the Premier Guitar Rig Rundown conducted by Chris Kies, it is confirmed that MJ Lenderman uses the Fender American Vintage II 1977 Telecaster Deluxe Electric Guitar, as he mentions, "This Fender American Vintage II 1977 Telecaster Deluxe comes out for cleaner needs in the set."

Lenderman borrowed a Hiwatt to use at some hometown shows in Asheville and fell in love, so he brings this Custom 50 out on the road now. He’s working his way to a full J Mascis setup, “one cab at a time.”
