Omar Rodríguez-López's Guitars
This Ibanez AX120 was Omar's main guitar during the early years of The Mars Volta and can be seen in many live performance photos.
The ORM-1 guitar is the artist signature guitar for Omar Rodriguez-López which was first introduced in 2008. He has frequently used this guitar live, as such in the photo.
In an Rig Rundown with Omar, he gave some details on the guitar. He says the guitar was made small and simplistic to suit his hand size and standards. He uses 13 gauge, first acquired by accident, and ended up being more comfortable than thinner strings.
Omar Rodríguez-López used the Squier Super-Sonic as his main guitar during his time with At the Drive-In, as evidenced by a photo on Photobucket.
Omar Rodriguez-Lopez poses backstage for a "1 photo and 1 photo only" with his 1974 Fender Mustang that's he's had since 2000. It's been seeing much action these days, it's his main guitar on this tour. Antemasque, The Observatory NP, San Diego, Calif.
Used on various TMV recordings. This article by Guitar Player Magazine about the Octahedron Sessions states that the Mustang was made in 1964.
Used in Bosnian Rainbows on their first tour and their first album. Its a left handed 3/4 scale 60's Supro "super". Omar bought it because of its thick neck and because it his hand naturally falls where the lower notes were, which he was more interested in at at the time.
